Rare opportunity to own a piece of international rally history in the form of the ex-works Datsun Stanza PA 10, winner of the Southern Cross Rally 1979!

This car was originally built in 1979 with two others, specifically to try to win the Southern Cross Rally that year in Australia. 

This was a dramatic change in Nissan Australia’s policy with regards to rallying in Australia at that time, as up until then they had built all their cars in Australia.
That year Japan decided that they would build and look after the three cars in the Southern Cross Rally that year.

These works cars were driven by Rauno Altonen, Ross Dunkerton and George Fury.

The car now for sale was George Fury’s car and the one who went on to win the rally that year and the Australian Championship in 1980.

It has been involved in rallying since then.

The car went to the UK in 1996 where it entered many rallies with its then owner Andrew Johnstone and David Reid (Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum curator) in the left seat. They raced, among others, the RAC International Historic Rally 1996, the Circuit of Ireland Rally 1997 and 1998 and the Scottish Rally from 1996 to 2002.

The car’s specs are like they were in 1979 and with the car will go the 1997 RAC certification as Historic Rally Vehicle. Only changes made were to meet safety standards (roll cage and fire extinguisher system).

We bought it in 2011 and since then the car has been in a private museum on display, occasionally going out for special events or magazine photoshoots.

Raced the «power stage» of Rally de Portugal (WRC calendar) in 2012 and 2013.

This beauty is accompanied by a file with photos, newspaper clips and information. There is even a letter from Nissan and another from George Fury himself to the former owner Andrew Johnstone.
