TVR Tuscan V8 1971 – Chassis No 2019/6 - British National Hill climb Championship winner 1982, Paul Tankard.
This piece of British history arrived from Britain to Finland in 2013.
The current owner co-operated with an English friend to find something special from England.
And this car surely is “something special” due to its comprehensive and successful race history in the UK. Numerous stories and pictures were taken of this car during its racing period. This car won the famous Hillclimb-race UK championship in 1982.
The car was restored throughout by its original owner in England BETWEEN 2000-2003. Only 23,000 miles were driven at that time. The British owner was due to retire from competing due to his old age and started amending the vehicle back to road-use. Below is the cars history supplied by the original owner Paul Tankard:
1971 TVR TUSCAN V8 WITH VERY SUCCESSFUL COMPETITION HISTORY CHASSIS NO. 2019/6 ODERED FROM MARTIN LILLY AT THE FACTORY IN BLACKPOOL, FACTORY ORDER NO 079.
DELIVERED ON THE 6TH AUGUST 1971. DELIVERY NOTE INCLUDED.
REGISTERED 13TH AUGUST 1971 GREEN LOG BOOK AND ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL ALSO INCLUDED IN THE SALE.
SPRING 1973 CONVERTED TO FACTORY TUSCAN V8 SPECIFICATION BY BRIAN MURPHY. PRODUCTION MANAGER AT TVR USING 220BHP 289 FORD ENGINE (4. 7 LITRE) AND 3. 07 SALISBURY POWERLOC DIFF.
1975 FULL RACE 4. 7 LITRE GT40 ENGINE FITTED AND CAR MODIFIED TO MARQUE SPORTSCAR SPECIFICATION (ROAD LEGAL CLASS 8).
1975/1977 CAMPAIGN FOR 3 SEASONS IN MARQUE SPORTSCARS WITH MANY CLASS WINS AND 2 CLASS RECORDS. LATER USING A FALCONER AND DUNN FULL RACE FORMULA 5000 BOSS 302 ENGINE.
1978/1979 COMPLETELY REBUILT TO LIGHTWEIGHT MODIFIED SPORTSCAR SPECIFICATION (CLASS 10) WITH LIGHTWEIGHT FACTORY SHELL AND BONNET USING THE FULL RACE GT40 ENGINE WITH SOME SUSPENSION INOPUT FROM NIGEL DICKINSON OF CHEVRON CARS.
1979/1982 COMPETED IN NUMEROUS SPEED HILLCLIMBS AND SOME SPRINTS AT TRACKS ACROSS THE UK (PHOTOGRAPHS SHOWN) WITH MANY. MANY WINS AND CLASS RECORDS. WON THE BARC NATIONAL SPEED HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP OUTRIGHT IN 1982.
WON THE SUTHERLAND TROPHY TWO YEARS RUNNING AND THE GUNTER TROPHY. ALSO ACHIEVED ONE FTD. (MANY MEETING PROGRAMES. PHOTOGRAPHS AND PRESS CUTTINGS INCLUDED IN THE SALE)
BELOW IS HOW THE CAR IS NOW, CONVERSION WAS DONE WHILST STILL IN OWNERSHIP BY PAUL TANKARD:
2000/2003 3 YEAR PROJECT UNDERWENT A TOTAL NUT AND BOLT CONVERSION BACK TO ROAD SPECIFICATION USING A MUCH STRONGER 1972 MIKE BIGLAND DESIGNED CHASSIS SHELL. A 3. 5 LITRE HALF RACE ROVER V8 ENGINE, 5 SPEED GEARBOX AND POWWERLOC DIFFERENTIAL. REBUILD PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORD INCLUDED IN THE SALE.
THE CONVERSION IS CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE FACTORY BUILD STANDARD USING ALL NEW, RECONDITIONED OR RE-BUILT PARTS. THE CAR HAS SINCE COVERED 11. 00 COMPLETELY TROUBLE FREE MAINLY DRY MILES AND WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE VERY EXHILARATING ROAD SERVICE OR COULD EASILY BE CHANGED BACK TO A TRACK CAR WITH PRESENT ENGINE OR RETURNED TO A 4. 7 OR 5 LITRE FORD UNIT.

INTERIOR ALL NEWLY TRIMMED IN BLACK LEATHER AND BLACK WILTON CARPETS.
You will notice that the competition car was a different number plate (555 PT), this is because the private registration number was sold and replaced with KPT 555K.
There have been a few changes to the car since being in Finland, all carried out by skilled and professional people:
· Converted from RHD to LHD.
· Rear lights changed from the original Mk2 Cortina lights to Mk1 Cortina lights.
· Interior fabrics and seats replaced.
· Wheels changed, originals included with the car.
The car was registered in Finland in 2013 and has been qualified to Finnish museum vehicle registrar.
It has a Finnish title and a valid test (TUV/MOT) certificate, registration title is showing 4700cc even though the car has a 3500cc engine.
Glass fibre body is in good condition.
The paint work looks original. Removed door panel shows same matching colour. However not 100% certainty on that.
Nothing is broken or defective and it is ready to be used.
There is a ton of paperwork and photos with this car from new showing its superb history.
The current owner, skilful mechanic, passionate automotive collector only carefully selects spectacular specimens. Here is definitely one such a discovery!
