1967 Brabham BT21-9 FB
Description:
According the race car historian Chris Townsend, BT21-9 was supplied new to Anglo-Spanish Racing and driven during the 1967 European Formula 3 season by Brian Classick.
Classick raced BT21-9 at circuits including Oulton Park, Silverstone, Pau, Montjuïc Park in Barcelona, Monaco and Monza. Classick and BT21-9 had a strong start, finishing third overall at Oulton Park on March 11, 1967. At Silverstone in April they advanced to 12th in a major international F3 field. Following an accident at Monza, Classick returned late in the season and finished second at Oulton Park in September.
For 1968, BT21-9 was sold to Peter Hanson, who campaigned the car extensively in British Formula 3, Formula Libre and Northern Single Seater events. Hanson achieved multiple podium and class-leading results at Croft, Rufforth, Snetterton and Cadwell Park. Notably, at Cadwell Park he finished second, only 0.2 second behind, and equalled the Formula 3 lap record.
The car was subsequently sold through Frank Williams to Canadian Cam McKenzie. He converted the Brabham to Formula B specification with a Ford twin-cam. McKenzie raced BT21-9 in North America from 1969 through 1971, including the SCCA Continental Formula B Championship finale at Sebring, the Gulf Canada Championship rounds at Westwood and Edmonton, and the 1971 Players Championship event at Westwood.
So the documented ownership chain begins with Classick in 1967. It is followed by Peter Hanson, and Cam McKenzie, and then through Terry Edwards, Nigel Davis, Stan Beck and Tim Osborne. The dossier notes that some intermediate Canadian ownership during the 1970s and 1980s may remain undocumented.
Townsend states in his dossier of BT21-9 that it is a “highly original” car with a documented history encompassing its three principal period owners and four later owners.

The BT21 is currently powered by a 1600 c.c. Lotus twin cam with a Hewland Mk4 five speed gearbox with reverse. The dog rings and fork checks were done this past Spring.
The engine was fully rebuilt by Ivey Engines in 2015. It was refreshed by Ivey in 2019, and has an Ivey prepared F2 style oil pump and XLT Super Starter. The engine has eight races on it since the full rebuild and three since the refresh. The most recent race was the Velocity Invitational in June, 2026.
The Brabham rides on Hyperco springs and 8211 Koni dampers. New half shafts, stub axles, wheels studs, and yokes etc. were provided by Peter Denty and Taylor Race Engineering in 2001-2003. The suspension, shift linkage, steering column, etc. are nickel plated.
The OMP Platinum fire system bottle is still in the green but will need to be refilled/recertified or replaced due to its age. The belts were new in 2026, and are FIA homologated. The Brabham also comes with a hard wired transponder. Additionally, a new battery for the car was installed in 2026.
The spares are impressive and worth many thousands of dollars more. They include a complete body (nose/cockpit, undertray, and engine cover) that has already been finished in the car’s current colors and not yet used. The cost for those pieces alone was $11,000. The car comes with two spare fiberglass seats and one seat cover. Spares also include multiple gear sets, old (probably original) gauges, dash panel, and more. The car will also come with two spare wheels, one front and one rear. It appears that the original aluminum fuel tanks, including the long distance tank, are still with the car.
The log books with the car go back to approximately 2000. Also included will be a notebook from Cam McKenzie from 1968, along with newspaper clippings, a photo of the car at that time, and more info. from prior owners and from the Brabham Registry.
