1967 Brabham BT23B-1 rolling chassis
Description:
BT23B-1 is for sale as a rolling chassis and has not been altered or used since the engine and gearbox were removed the mid 1970s. Still on Firestone YB11 tyres, 5.00/9.50-13 fronts, 5.25/12.5 -13 rears.
History
Only 3 BT23Bs were built. The last Brabhams to use the Coventry Climax FPFengine. BT23B-2 is in Australia, and BT23B-3 was scrapped after a crash in the 1970s.
This car, BT23B-1 was used by Mike Hawley in the 1967 RAC championship British hillclimbs with a 2-litre engine and won one round. It went to Bob Rose mid 1968.
The Scottish couple, Gray and Agnes Mickel competed in it with a 2.5 litre engine in the national championship hill climbs in 1969 and 1970.
It passed to Bernard Worth and was used in sprints, hill climbs and at least one race.
The next owner Richard Thwaites, in about 1975, removed the engine and gearbox and some other parts to use in his Brabham BT Sports car and the rolling chassis was bought in about 1975 by me , Joe Applegarth, as a potential source of spares for the BT23C which I raced in some 130 events in 1973 - 1978. I used no parts from BT23B-1.
The car has been stored upstairs in my workshop for about 50 years.
