Alfa Romeo 155 stw D2 engine
Description:
Alfa Romeo 155 D2 STW (1996)
A Touring Car Legend, Reawakened
A legend.
If the 1980s belonged to the golden age of rallying, then the 1990s were undeniably the era of Supertouring — a time when technology, sound, and spectacle came together in one of the most competitive forms of motorsport ever created.
This Alfa Romeo 155 D2 is a pure product of that era.
Developed as the successor to the iconic 155 V6 TI — DTM Champion in 1993 — this factory-built 155 D2 was engineered to dominate. With its screaming 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing over 300 horsepower and revving beyond 9000 rpm, it is a machine designed for one purpose only: to devour the track.
Proven Racing History
This official 1996 Alfa Romeo 155 STW competed in the German Super Tourenwagen Cup — one of the most prestigious touring car championships of its time.
Driven by Franz Engstler, the car raced in:
- 1996 with Alfa Team Engstler
- 1997 with Cool Fire Team Engstler
Its competitive life continued in the Netherlands, participating in the Alfa Romeo Challenge between 2002 and 2004. Later, under its current ownership since 2005, the car returned to the track for select events in 2010, including Spa-Francorchamps, Zolder, and Zandvoort.
This is not a replica. This is the real thing — with history, pedigree, and presence.
Condition & Presentation
Finished in its striking Alfa Corse red livery — a tribute to the championship-winning 155 V6 TI of Nicola Larini — the car presents in very good condition. The paintwork remains vibrant, with only minimal imperfections.
The body is reported to be completely corrosion-free, and all exterior elements — including seals, plastics, and optics — are in excellent order.
Inside, the car is purpose-built for racing:
- Fully stripped cockpit
- Integrated roll cage
- Recaro racing seat
- OMP steering wheel
- Fully functional instrumentation
Everything reflects its true identity: a focused, uncompromising touring car.
Engine & Performance
At its heart lies the legendary Alfa Corse-developed 2.0L D2 engine, originally built by Abarth and producing approximately 310 hp in period.
The engine was professionally rebuilt by APP Racing Engines and, remarkably, has not been raced since. It was only dyno-tested, calibrated, and preserved.
In December 2025, the car was recommissioned and dyno-tested once again, producing a strong 297 horsepower — confirming its outstanding health and readiness.
Tested on a Quattra Tuning Superflow V3.2 dyno, the engine delivers exactly what you would expect:
sharp throttle response, high-revving character, and raw, authentic touring car performance.
Mechanical Excellence
This car has recently undergone a comprehensive mechanical refresh, carried out with attention to detail and respect for its pedigree:
- Fully rebuilt front and rear suspension
- All components disassembled, inspected, cleaned, and reassembled
- Braking system checked and serviced with new fluids
- Underbody restored to correct condition
- Fresh fuel system with 102-octane fuel and new filter
- New Yellow Top battery installed
The result is a car that feels tight, precise, and ready for immediate use — whether on track or in a collection.
Additional Equipment
- 4 Speedline racing wheels
- Michelin semi-slick tires in good condition
- 5-speed sequential gearbox
- 1997 original competition passport
- Spare parts package (mechanical and body components)
