A well-known and much admired Outright and Class winning Category 1 stage rally car for tarmac and loose surface events is now reluctantly offered for sale. The plan for 2024 had been to enter one of the Historic Rally Car Register series of events and the car has been re-prepared accordingly over winter and is now fully sorted and ready to go and have fun.
This car currently in works colours of Carib blue and white has been built and developed over the years always using quality parts and acknowledged and experienced engineers and maintained regardless of cost. To build from scratch would be in excess of £50,000.
Being extensively prepared for stage rallying this car could easily be simplified/modified for Targa rallying, Race, Sprints, Hillclimbs, Trials, Rallycross, Autocross, Stocks and other forms of motorsport.
The package includes Motorsport UK Historic Vehicle Identity Form No. 1628/22, MOT’d till July 2024 and the original FIA Homologation papers.
Detailed Specification - March 2024
Engine - 1040cc engine, lightened and balanced crank, cam is a Shrigley Engineering special grind from R23 race camshaft, weight matched and lightened conrods, 72.5 mm pistons, Cosworth tappets, carrier modified for high lift cam, dual race springs, high pressure high capacity oil pump with wills ringed Sport fully worked cylinder head with 1.4 and 1.125 valves, block strengthening kit all built by Mike Dent/Andy Jones. 16 row Mocal oil cooler with electric fan. MSD epoxy filled ignition coil fitted and with Cooper S points (historic regs), bespoke Condenser and 50 OHM high performance leads, bolt on side exit cap distributor with modified advance curve. Uprated engine mount. High output alternator and new water pump. Good compression confirmed with individual cylinder leak down test (0124).
Carburation - Twin 40 Weber DCOE carburettors with Weber dual throttle cable linkage and feeding a dual inlet /exhaust manifold in high temperature protective coating to an exhaust baffled box with stainless steel cover on rear panel. Bespoke airbox with remote filter housing and ducting. Twin Facet fuel pumps on Torques linkage and Filter King.
Clutch - Competition helix paddle clutch with uprated clutch fork and roller release bearing conversion. lightened and balanced flywheel plus new master and slave cylinders, clutch slave with remote bleed nipple.
Transaxle - 4 speed competition Works Rally Ratio gearbox with close ratio helical cut 3rd and 4th gears. Gear linkage using nylon ball gear lever conversion and UJ link to transaxle. Competition gearbox mounts.
Drive - 1” driveshafts with competition donuts and high tensile bolts.
Shock Absorbers - Protech Motorsport developed adjustable dampers all round with 225Lb front springs and forest spec 550lb rear springs.
Bodyshell - Fully strengthened body shell with full Safety Devices rollcage cert No. 299 including door bars, fibreglass bonnet and bootlid, laminated front screen and Perspex side and rear windows.
Strengthened suspension wishbones front (with skid) and rear with polyurethane bushes and a full aluminium sumpguard to rear.
Seats – New Sparco competition seats (with modular cushions for customisation valid end 2028) and Turn One 6 point harnesses with Hans straps(valid end 2027)
Brakes: Front - Viva discs and calipers (period allowed) and rebuilt hubs/bearings/kingpins (0823) and new master cylinders (0823).
Rear - Cerakoted back plates with new wheel cylinders and new Mintex Halo competition brake shoes and springs.
Dual front/rear pedal box with remote adjuster and Girling cylinders.
Extinguishers - Lifeline Zero 4.0 electric plumbed in and a Lifeline 2.5kg hand held (both serviced 2022)
Cooling - Front radiator conversion with thermostat/manual override fan and rear small rad.
Wheels/Tyres - Currently sitting on 5 No. 13” x 5.5 Minator (Minilite pattern) alloys with Dunlop SP85 gravel competition tyres. Also 6 No. 13” x 5.5 Minator (Minilite pattern) alloys with Kumho V700 tarmac competition tyres included.
Dashboard - Competition binnacle dash with Speedo, Rev counter, Water Temp and Oil pressure gauges. Switches for Ignition/ fuel cut-off/ spots and oil/water cooler fans.
Peltor intercom.
Navigators footrest and horn button and airhorns. Monit trip and Don Barrow cagelight and OMP map light. Helmet net.
All brake and water lines inside and extensive use of aeroquip.
Modified wiring loom protected in Raychem sleeving.
Spotlights and quick fitting mounting bracket. PIAA bulbs in headlights and spotlights, wired through modified loom inc fuses and relays.
