Description:
Chassis number RA9712 was commissioned and constructed in 1997 by TVR Motorsport to serve as one of their Works Team Cars.
It carried out that role until the Tuscan Challenge championship was cancelled at the end of the 2004 season.
Originally painted yellow and Subaru blue, then latterly TVR Purple Pearl , the car was driven in period by a variety of well known and capable Tuscan drivers and was a twice Championship winning car.
The car was bought directly from TVR Motorsport at Bristol Ave in 2005 by ourselves, and has never been on the market before.
It's lineage and provenance from build to date are undisputed, the car is truly a major part of Tuscan Racing Legend.
For most of it's racing life both as a factory owned car and in my ownership it has run under race number 58 in it's distinctive TVR Racing Purple
There are many video's (see link) of the car racing, both in period and as recently as August '23.
Built, from new , with the TVR 4.5 Litre AJP8 Race Engine, and is in fully original Tuscan Challenge spec - indeed, this car could be scrutineered to 2004 Challenge Regs without fault.
Correct Tremec T5 Gearbox , original spec MBE ECU, etc .. This car is materialy the vehicle you will see in the videos from the 2004 season and before.
Low hours use since gearbox refresh, the original Ohlins 2 way shock absorbers were rebuilt last year and the springs powder coated , the BTR differential completgely rebuilt 2 races ago.
Fire extinguisher system replaced '22 and TRS belts valid until end of '24.
The car has had sparing use in the last few years, other than bonnet replacements, the bodywork is ,as was when purchased from TVR- see photo's.
The car is steeped in Tuscan history , the paint wears a few scars - each one tells a story - and also has some interesting Works features.
The eagle eyed will notice the right hand rear wheel arch is slightly wider than the left hand - following an off at Oulton Park in the last season of the Challenge 2004 , the factory repaired the right hand rear but used a slightly wider moulding from the Boss , Peter Wheeler's No8 car.
The door latch is a lightweight button design , only found on works car's, the pedal box is an AP unit, originally destined for the Cerbera Speed 12 road car's.
The rear diffuser on this car is longer and goes further under the car than any other ive seen.
As the paint from bonnet back is still original, the car still wears the " TVR Challenge" logo , initiated for the 2004 season when TVR dropped the "Tuscan" wording (in anticipation of a re-vamped Championship that would have mixed Sagaris bodied cars with the classic Challenge shaped versions).
Included in the sale is a SPARE AJP8 Full Race Challenge ENGINE, featuring Diamond Billet Piston's, rebuilt by the Go To ex factory race engine builder.
Spare T5 Gearbox , Air Box/Intake Pipe assemblies, MBE ECU, AJP to T5 Bellhousings, Ignition components etc.
The car sit's on a set of original 18" Team Dynamics Challenge Wheels with good slicks, also included in the sale will be a set of modern Team Dynamics 18" multi spoke wheels (see last photo) which can be mounted with Dunlop Wets's or Yokohama AO52 List 1B Tyres - in good used condition.
Included also ,period Dell Laptop with communication lead to allow the correct Challenge AJP8 factory software diagnostics and set up program (included) to be used.
A copy of the original works Build Sheet accompanies the car.
Also included is a non original but useful Grantura Engineering GT Hard Top which secures via dzus fasteners.
From build until 2004 the car was raced in the TVR Tuscan Challenge.
Today, Challenge cars have a variety of Series in which they can be raced ,including Bernie's V8's, Classic Sports Car Club, BARC Sports/Saloons etc as well as an increasing number of European Series.
This is a unique opportunity to secure an Original Specification Ex Works Tuscan , with the added benefit of a spare AJP8 race unit for peace of mind, along with other spares, makes this car not only an investment, but also a race ready and very capable package.
The car is located in Manchester UK and can be viewed in a workshop with ramp and pit facilities - detailed inspection welcomed.
Part Exchange Up or Down considered, for Interesting Sports ,Classic road car or Race Car.
The last photo shows the spare wheels.
The last four photo's show the car when campaigned by TVR.
All other photo's taken 14th Oct '23.
