Chevron B1 mk2 - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

This is a re-creation of the original racer which started the Chevron legend. Designed by Steve Sheldon who joined Derek Bennett's Chevron in 1968, and built by others among the original team, the car was intended to be used as a road car and occasional track toy. It is fully road registered (2007), has current M.O.T. and is in regular road use. This is chassis no 1 of only 2 examples built, the other apparently resides in a private collection in Sweden. The project was discontinued so the factory could concentrate on designing and producing the original versions of the current range of racing Chevrons.

The car is fitted with a Ford RoCam 1600 in fairly low tune, similar to the SportKa, but as it weighs less than 600 kg it performs at least as well as the 1965 original. Clearly the engine offers unlimited possibilities for tuning or even replacement. The car has done only 2,274 miles from new, most of mine enjoying our twisty lanes. I bought it from the factory some 6 years ago.

My maintenance guy tells me it's a great design and beautifully put together. It has independent rear suspension - something Caterham still doesn't have - and which was the difference between the original B1 and the Lotus Sevens which it was designed to beat - and did - thus starting the Chevron legend.

It is fairly civilised, with all leather upholstery, quite comfortable and roomy enough for me at 6 feet and over 14 stones. The steering is unassisted and unashamedly heavy (no power assist here) and the clutch operates like an on/off switch as you'd expect from its race-bred heritage. It looks pretty good but can easily be tidied by a new owner if stone chips are a problem!

I'm selling it because I no longer need it. I bought it simply because I wanted to own and drive a Chevron - I've done that and I'm now 75 so it may be time to grow up.

If interested, please be aware of what it is and what it represents. It really is a unique car. Note that the private plate is not included.
