History
This Chevron B-42 was a Fred Opert Racing F2 car, which was driven primarily in the 1978 Formula 2 Division of the Aurora AFX Championship by Boy Hayje (Johan Gerard "Boy" Hayje) & Michael Bleekemolen.
Records show it raced 11 times during that F2 Season including at Hockenheimring and Nürburgring in Germany, Florence and Rome in Italy, Rouen and Nogaro in France and the Thruxton Circuit in Great Britain. The Fred Opert team was sponsored by F & S Properties.
The Chevron was also driven in the Aurora AFX British F1 Championship Round held at Zandvoort on 15th May 1978 by Boy Hayje and came in 3rd place.
Following the 1978 European F2 Season the Chevron was sold to Phil Bennett (Leeds, West Yorkshire) who then sold it to Vivian Candy. It was next seen two years later, when advertised by dealer Roger Cowman in October 1981, and it is understood to have been sold by him to Jim Flynn in Ireland. Tony Skinner drove Flynn's B42 at least twice in 1982. It went missing for three years, until late 1985 when it was sold In England by Martin Hill (Camborne, Cornwall) to Roger Jordan (Combe Martin, Devon.)
It has well documented history from 1986 when it was used in hillclimbs and sprints by Roger Jordan with a 3.5-litre Rover V8 engine up to 1994, after which Jordan retained the Chevron unused. He rebuilt the racing car (a total nut and bolt rebuild including the engine) between 2016 and 2021, returning to competition in 2022, having enlarged the engine capacity to 4 litres. Jordan ran it at Wiscombe Park, Castle, Tregrehan and Werrington Park in the summer of 2022. It was last run at Wiscombe Park and Werrington Park in April 2023.
Roger Jordan passed away in August 2023.
The Chevron has a valid Motorsport UK Vehicle Passport for Sprint & Hillclimbing which Expires in 2030.
The engine has low hours since the rebuild.
