We offer one of the most recognisable Chevron B8’s to market, with one of the most complete and credible competition histories of any B8.

 

DBE71 retains continuous provenance from new with period international results major driver names and long-standing eligibility for prominent historic events including the LeMans Classic, Goodwood, Le Mans Classic Series (by Peter Auto), & Silverstone Classic.


Chevron Cars built DBE71 and supplied it new to Sir Paul Vestey. Vestey debuted the car at the Daily Express Silverstone Trophy at Silverstone in March 1969 and raced it extensively during the 1969 RAC Sports Car Championship, By mid-1969 the car ran under the Worcestershire Racing Association entry with James Tangye and Chris Smith.

During 1969 and 1970 DBE71 competed across Europe at international level including Mugello, Spa, Nürburgring, Brands Hatch, Vila Real and Barcelona.

Later history and notable drivers
For 1971 DBE71 passed to Tony Charnell who continued to race it in the RAC Championship. In 1972, Simon Philips a Le Mans driver best known for his Ferrari 512 BBLM campaign. Philips retained the car until 1978.

In 1982 the car was purchased by Sir Stirling Moss. Moss first tested DBE71 while it was owned by his friend Michael Campbell-Bowling, and having described DBE71 as probably the best handling car he had driven, acquired it from Campbell-Bowling as he returned to racing 1980’s.

Moss raced the car in early historic competition and achieved a noted victory at the Phoenix Park Dublin where he beat Richard Attwood’s Porsche 917 on a wet circuit. DBE71 is illustrated with Moss in the Chevron reference book ‘The Derek Bennett Story’ by David Gordon.

 

DBE71 is a testament to Derek Bennett’s engineering brilliance and highlights the Chevron B8’s reputation for plucky underdog performance in period endurance events, favourable handling characteristics in the most challenging conditions.

 

Historic racing
Since the Moss ownership DBE71 has remained within the front rank of historic sports car racing. It has passed through respected collectors and competitors and has been maintained and actively campaigned in international historic events.

This B8 will be suitable to apply for “Legacy” status in future ‘Le Mans Classic series’ events, which acknowledges cars with superb pedigree and ownership chain, while maintaining its originality.

Rewarding the car with on-track performance advantages- with reduced mandatory pit stop times and additional championship points in Classic Endurance Racing 1 races.

DBE71 has been prepared by Foxcraft since 2014 and actively campaigned, at notable events like LeMans Classic, Peter Auto’s CER1, Masters Sportscars, and Guards Trophy.
