Description:
Available to purchase is this immaculate 1997 RML built Nissan Primera GT Super Touring car as driven by David Leslie in the 1997 British Touring Car Championship season.
After a strong BTCC debut season in 1997 for chassis #33 Primera, finishing 5th in the manufacturers championship, #33 was updated with the currently fitted 1998 aero pack, larger flared front wings (of which there are spares) and an update to the Pectel ECU and dash instrumentation systems. The car was then sent to Sweden to campaign the STCC in 1998. However, all the original 1997 kit comes with the car to put it back into period features including the correct 1997 front splitter, front wings and rear wing should the new owner wish. Being a unique 1997 car, it was fitted with some incredible design features including electric folding mirrors that reduce high speed drag operable from the steering wheel and still working perfectly (banned after the '97 season) and twin water-cooled front brake callipers with their own radiator, pump and expansion tank.
Thoroughly cherished by the current owner since 2005, chassis #33 has won three BRSCC Super Touring Club Championships and one prior in Formula Saloons. The car was also on the podium at the HSCC Silverstone Classic Super Touring Car races twice in 2012 against later Primeras and Mondeos showing the cars ability. Since 2013 the car has been in a carpeted, climate-controlled storage unit remaining unused. The engine and gearbox have been run periodically.
ENGINE 97003- 2.0 16V N/A IES 4 cylinder producing 326bhp. Engine was refreshed in 2011 for the 2012 season by Dave Hill and is on c45% of engine life at the very worst having run 5 club events and 2 Silverstone Classic races (two podium finishes). 97002 also comes with the car in a fully dressed ready to fit in a Nissan Motorsport flight case. (may sell engine separately for the right offer).
GEARBOX - Replacement selector fork fitted in 2017, solving gear selector issues. Many cogs/dogs included with the sale of this car (some with damaged teeth from gearbox issue). Spares also include a complete spare magnesium case, oil pump, differential and 13:49 final drive.
SHELL - and interior were meticulously restored to their original 1997 Vodafone Nissan Racing factory colours/graphics in 2013 by D&B Coachworks, running just one race since the work was carried out. All interior carbon was lacquered then polished to show the weave.
BRAKES - Brakes are AP Racing, twin balanced 4-pot water-cooled brake callipers also in use only for that season. Many new and used discs included with car
WHEELS – 36 Rays 9 x 19” magnesium alloy wheels, 6 or 8 have been refurbished and crack tested. 12 new/old stick Dunlop slicks from 2014, ideal for testing.
Car comes with a simply enormous spares package which can be sent on request to interested parties but includes enough spares to run this car for years to come. At least £40k in parts. Included are the original PI data lead, pit wall beacon, Windows 97 Pi PC, RML team set up data sheets, set up equipment, all service and specialist maintenance tools, air jack lance, safety stays and air bottle on trolley, 1000NM wheel nut gun, fuel dump churn, fuel extraction kit, brand new original Nissan Motorsport team clothing, including sweatshirts, shirts, polos, coats, overalls trousers virtually everything you’ll need to run this car like a pro for years.
Without doubt one of the quickest saloon cars there is and a great pleasure to drive. A very reluctant tear-jerking but necessary sale.
