Proton BTCC Touring Cars - David Leslie/Phil Bennett/Shaun Watson-Smith/Farique Hariman

 

We are offering for sale all 5x Proton BTCC Touring cars. The first 2 cars were built in the UK for the 2002 and 2003 BTCC, driven by David Leslie and Phil Bennett and a further 3 updated cars built for the 2004 BTCC, driven by Shaun Watson-Smith and Farique Hariman.

 

Based on a Mitsubishi EVO 3 floorpan, Proton received dispensation to run Renault Laguna engines which were built and developed by Mountune, as the Proton V6 road car engine was deemed unsuitable as a basis for a race engine.

 

David Leslie achieved several podium results in the car during 2002, which was probably the highlight of the cars’ relatively short career. After the BTCC Proton ran the cars in Malaysia until the end of 2006, when they retired the cars, and they have not been run since.

3 of the cars are in original condition as found. 1 car has been stripped back to a bare shell, awaiting rebuild. The last car has been stripped, media blasted, painted and rebuilt, and just requires final assembly. All cars are running the original TOCA spec. parts as was mandatory in the day such as Xtrac gearboxes, TOCA hubs and centrelock OZ wheels, AP brakes, EFI engine management etc. One of the cars is  missing the gearbox internals. 

Two complete sets of parts to rebuild engines; pistons, rods, bearings, valve springs etc. included. New AP Racing brake discs, airjacks, Pi dashes have been sent to Pi and been refurbished, laptop with correct software to talk to EFI ECU’s, 2x new Premier bag tanks,new wheel bearings, clutches, 2x of the gearboxes have been rebuilt. These parts will be supplied with the 2004 spec. cars. 

There is a FULL set (hundreds!) of the original technical drawings for all of the parts which were fabricated/built for these cars. All 5 cars have the original MSA scrutineering tags still attached.

Fully documented race history on all of the cars.

These can be imported into the UK under heading 97. 05 (collections and collectors’ pieces of historical interest), where customs duty is nil, and VAT is charged at an effective tariff rate of 5%.

Cars are located in Christchurch, New Zealand, and can be shipped anywhere in the world at a competitive rate.
