Description:
1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup
Chassis WP0ZZZ95ZGN101737
The car is one of only 40 944 Turbo Cups made by Porsche in 1986 and absolutely the most important one being the series winner.
The 1986 Turbo Cup series was the first ever Porsche Factory Road / Race series and pre-dated Carrera cup racing which has now become synonymous with Porsche road car based racing.
It is estimated that there were some 250-300 Turbo cups made between 1986 and 1999 to race in various series all over the world.
Only 40 however were made in the first year 1986 and these cars unlike 87-88 cars were more road based cars. Unlike the later cars not all the changes are as well documented however the following are key identifiers of these cars.
Magnesium intake manifold and sump
Factory fitted 8 point Matter bolt in roll cage
16*8 front and 16*9 rear Fuchs wheels (these were the only 944s to have these wheels fitted,
later cup cars had magnesium tele-dials)
Drivers side Recaro Porsche racing seat with 4 point harness, and standard passenger side
bucket seat
No power steering, aircon, any electric mirrors, seats windows etc
No paint and body protection (option code 666)
Turbo cup chassis Europe (option code 751)
40% locking differential (option code 220)
All of the above are factory fitted equipment on these 40 cars, and all will have an option code sticker showing 666, 751 and 220. The car also comes with the little Sportkit 1 booklet which was made just for these cars.
Later cup cars were much more modified and are more race car than road / race cars and had items like switchable ABS, factory strut braces, 250 hp engine etc, though they are not as rare as the 86 cars.
Chassis 101737 was purchased new by a Peter Muller, who imported the car for Winkelhock to race it in the 86 series. Winkelhock won the series making this car arguably the most collectable Porsche 944 in the market. The car also comes with the important Wagenpass (passport) which shows the participation in all 6 86 Turbo Cup races.
Unlike many of these cars that were extensively modified after the 86 series to become race cars, 101737 was as we understand used as a road car and therefore has not been changed or modified. the car was purchased from Automobila (Franco Lembo) in France in June 15. The car had been resprayed and all of the livery of the car when Winkelhock won the series has been replicated in perfect detail. (the car raced in 2 livery styles during the series and is presented in the final livery that was used in the last 3 or 4 races). The interior is basically exactly as it would have when the car raced in series, with correct seats and cage etc all in place.
The car comes with various documents (some mentioned above) and this nice original poster. Sensible offers considered.
