Porsche was the first manufacturer to start a single model racing series. 

The 944 Turbo proved to be an excellent racing car for Porsche gentlemen drivers. From 1987 Porsche Motorsport in Weissach built approximately 192 “Turbo Cup” cars designed to be raced around the world. These Porsches were raced in Canada as the Rothmans Porsche Turbo Cup, in South-Africa and in Europe as the Turbo Cup series, as well as in the Escort series in the United States.

There are many differences between an original road car and the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup. There are factory deletes such as no sunroof, no insulation, no rust protection and no electric motors. Other differences include performance improvements such as larger brakes, larger clutch and modified transmission. While even more was done to lighten the car by as much as 200 kg (e.g. a fiberglass engine hood, magnesium intake manifold and special carpets). The Porsche Turbo cup was intentionally designed to look like a 944 that you could buy from the dealer on Monday morning, but built as a true race car with factory installed rollcage, race seat, kill switches, improved turbo unit, stiffened chassis, special magnesium wheels, special Bilstein or Koni shock absorbers, limited slip differential, ...
Little modification was done to the engine, except for the turbo unit. The concept was a lighter car with improved handling and braking. 

The Porsche 944 Turbo Cup featured here is a European series example that debuted in the cup race prior to the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1988.

After a few seasons of Cup racing the car was sold to a Swiss gentleman that used the car for hill climbs.
Two years ago the car has been rebuilt completely, corresponding to the original Cup standard.

It is now ready for a new life, offering exciting experiences for any gentleman driver or as a valuable addition to any Porsche collection.
