Model History

Introduced as the successor to the 458 Italia GT, the Ferrari 488 GTE marked a new era for Ferrari’s endurance racing program. Developed by Ferrari’s Competizioni GT department with Michelotto, it quickly became a benchmark in GTE competition by 2017.

Based on the 488 GTB, the car featured a heavily revised aluminum chassis, race-optimized suspension, and advanced aerodynamics. Its 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8, mounted low and rearward, delivered strong and consistent performance despite regulatory restrictions, paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox.

By 2017, the 488 GTE had established itself as a highly competitive and refined endurance racer, combining modern turbo performance with Ferrari’s proven racing pedigree.

Chassis History

Chassis 3818 represents one of the most successful early examples of the Ferrari 488 GTE, delivered new in 2017 for factory-supported competition with AF Corse. Entered as the #71 Pro car in the FIA World Endurance Championship, it was driven by Davide Rigon and Sam Bird, playing a key role in Ferrari’s title-winning campaign. Over the season, the car secured multiple standout results, including three pole positions, two race victories, and additional podium finishes, contributing directly to Ferrari’s Manufacturers’ Championship success.

Following its factory-backed season, chassis 3818 continued its racing career in the 2018–2019 WEC “Super Season” under the MR Racing banner in GTE-Am. Driven by Ishikawa, Cheever, and Beretta, it remained a competitive entry, consistently finishing inside the top ten and concluding the season 9th in class.

Today, the car presents as a well-maintained and proven endurance racer, with approximately 7,000 km on the engine and gearbox, notably without any major incidents. As a genuine factory-supported AF Corse chassis with race wins and championship pedigree, 3818 stands as a highly significant example of the 488 GTE’s early competitive success.
