Description:

Hello,

This Jaguar is from a private collection now offered forsale. Stunning car with amazing history of winning! Tube chassis, undeniable provenance, and ready to go!

----------------------------

Known as Group 44 Chassis XJR4, the first purpose built race car from Group 44, Commissioned by Jaguar in 1981 to win the SCCA Trans Am Championship. Previous Group 44 XJS race cars were producton chassis converted to race cars. XJR4 is a full tube frame race car and was the only chassis ever built. Winning 3 races and finishing second in the championship. XJR4 then went on to race in the 1982 IMSA 24hrs of Daytona. Deemed too modified for the GTO class Tullius was forced to race in the GTX class against Prototyes,  Tullius knew outright victory was impossible so he agreed to run the race on shaved street tires for longtime sponsor Goodyear. Driving with Tullius were Bill Adam and Gordon Smiley. The mighty XJS became the first V12 powered Jaguar to finish a 24hrs endurance race and signalled Jaguar's eventual return to Le Mans. XJR4 was clocked at 194mph on th Daytona banking making it the fastest XJS in the world. XJR4 was the test mule for the GTP program and was to be raced in the 1982 SCCA Trans Am Championship by Gordon Smiley with Intermedics sponsorship. Sadly Gordon was killed qualifying for the 1982 Indy 500. Tullius drove XJR4 at the first race with the Intermedics livery (First and only time a Group 44 livery was not the traditional White with Green stripes) XJR4 was then parked and sold to a private collection.
