1971 Chevron B19 – Ford FVC
Description:
Chevron B19 – Ford FVC
Chassis: DBE 12 (associated with B19-71-12)
Highly regarded example of Chevron’s iconic B19, one of the most competitive and evocative 2-litre sports-racers of its generation.
A competitive and well-established front-runner in Peter Auto’s CER1 series, this car was the 2021 CER1 Under-2 Litre Class Champion in the hands of Emmanuel Brigand, and went on to qualify first in class at the 2022 Le Mans Classic (Plateau 5). Powered by a 1.8-litre Ford FVC four-cylinder producing around 240 bhp, it remains eligible for leading historic events worldwide, including Le Mans Classic Heritage (Plateau 5), Peter Auto’s CER1, Motor Racing Legends 2-Litre Sports Cars, Masters Sports Car Legends, HSR Group 7 (Sebring & Daytona Classics), and HSCC Thundersports.
Accompanied by a valid FIA Historic Technical Passport and a useful spares package including additional bodywork and two sets of wheels.
The car currently carries a Chevron chassis plate stamped DBE 12. The ‘DBE’ prefix was an official designation introduced by Derek Bennett Engineering for replacement or continuation frames built after the original production run. In this instance, the DBE-stamped frame is thought to have been supplied by Chevron as a possible replacement for the original B19-71-12.
Various references — including this car’s 2024 Aguttes auction description, a historic document that accompanies it, and several online archives — associate this car with that identity, believed in period to have been one of the Chevron works entries campaigned extensively across Europe and South Africa, including a victory at the Bulawayo 3 Hours. Subsequent ownership records link it with notable drivers such as Sir Stirling Moss and Ray Bellm, adding further distinction to its story.
Today, the car is well proven and highly competitive in modern historic racing, having achieved multiple podiums and class wins in recent seasons, and remains an attractive entry for all major 2-litre sports-car grids.
