1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super FIA RHD

Description:

How about this as the coolest and cheapest entry into Historic Racing! This is a 1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super, factory Right Hand Drive, which is incredibly rare in itself, that has a proven history in Historic Racing and fortunes spent making it Ready to go! She was previously owned/raced by Geoff Breakwell and Julius Thurgood and extensively campaigned in various Historic race series with numerous podium finishes with the immediately preceding owner. The car has been well looked after by Historic specialists Westbourne Motorsport with the Engine being rebuilt in 2017. The car benefits from a recent £14k going through by The Light Car Company in December 2023.

Introduced in 1962 and outwardly almost indistinguishable from the preceding 1.3-litre Giulietta, the Giulia boasted a more powerful and much less fussy 1,570cc engine in addition to welcome improvements to the previously feeble heating arrangements. Despite their boxy, unitary construction body, the Giulietta and Giulia were paragons of aerodynamic efficiency, and like all Alfa Romeos possessed a distinctly sporting nature, the 92bhp produced by its classic, twin-cam, four-cylinder engine making the Giulia TI version a genuine 100mph (160km/h) car. Under the skin the Giulia featured a five-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension, coil-sprung live rear axle, and - apart from early cars - disc brakes all round.
Introduced in 1965, the more powerful (112bhp) Super improved on the TI's specification, boasting twin Weber carburettors, a floor-mounted gear shift, and a host of detail changes including the distinctive badge that gives the model its 'Bollo d'Oro' sobriquet.

The previous owner purchased this Giulia at Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale in July 2023 (Lot 280) for over £27k and then immediately spent £14k at the Light Car Company preparing for use, a total spend last year of over £41k, which is in addition to the fortunes spent in the previous few years. According to the previous owner this competition-prepared Giulia Super has 158bhp on tap, has good pace and is very competitive with other Giulias that he has raced against. Indeed, he has enjoyed considerable success with it, racking up numerous podium finishes in the HRDC. The car was previously owned/raced by Geoff Breakwell and Julius Thurgood.  Previously the Alfa raced with U2TC in the Silverstone Classic and the Donington Historic Festival. Of course, this car would also be eligible to race at the Goodwood Revival meeting as many other Giulias have done in the past. While in the preceding ownership the car was looked after by Historic specialists Westbourne Motorsport. In early 2017 a full engine rebuild was carried out by specialist Jim Evans at a cost of £8,500, while in 2019 the cylinder head was skimmed. Following the previous owners acquisition last year the Alfa was thoroughly gone through by The Light Car Company, since when it has only been driven at a Castle Combe track day. The Light Car Company's invoice for over £14,000 is on file but this is their summary: As well as a full service, we rewired a lot of the electrics and tidied under the dash to simplify things. Moved the battery cut off to the transmission tunnel. All coolant hoses were replaced, new brake pads and master cylinder, clean brake and clutch fluid. Replaced extinguisher pull cables and fitted new fire extinguisher for the plumbed-in system. Fit a washer bottle and repaired the windscreen washers. Modified throttle pedal for better position, supplied and fit smaller steering wheel and quick release boss. Removed and stripped rear axle, replaced half-shaft seals, checked tolerances and refit, replaced clutch master cylinder and bled through. Repaired rusty section of floor LH near seat belt anchor. Carried out full four-wheel alignment. Set up for the track. The car also comes with bills from Alfaholics and other specialists totalling many thousands of pounds. The car also comes with a V5C registration document and FIA HTP Appendix K papers valid until December 2026, making it eligible for events such as the Tour Auto and Modena Cento Oro. The spec includes some extra wheels, a Stack rev counter, Bespoke Moto-Lita Alcantara-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, Weber 45DCOE-125 carburettors, Lightweight baffled alloy fuel tank, FIA specification roll cage, Lightweight polycarbonate windows.

All in all, this is a great opportunity to start Historic Racing in the coolest car available, she is also road registered so would make a fun weekend screamer also! With competition history going back 25 years this is a great thing at a great price!
