Many Many wins with this beautiful freshly painted Devin! Our owner repaints the car every few years to keep it looking fresh for the race track. He has taken such good care of this Devin! 1959 Devin PE-5 (aka Pink elephant 5) Historic Racecar SUMMARY.
· Devin PE5 is a National Championship Winning FRONT RUNNER: The current Owner has Run this car in several Race Groups including the SVRA and VSCCA among others. This car was 2nd in the Entire USA (in points) in 2018. The Car won the National Championship in 2018 and is almost always on Podium in Group 4 SVRA. The PE5 was the FTD (Fastest Time of Day) at Two Hillclimbs under the current ownership. It has participated in 4 Hillclimb's including 2 Hershey and 2 at Mount Equinox.
· Race / Street: The car is FULLY TITLED, REGISTERED and INSURED with the original Austin Healey VIN and Body tag. This is a Street Legal car, although street tires and Exhaust inserts are required on the street. The Engine is a High Compression Race Prepped and SVRA Vintage Legal Racing Engine. A Spare Street prepped (lower compression) Engine is available, see Additional Spares.
· PE5 History: A binder of info is collected from prior owners and research, some raw info and some confirmed. Per the prior owner’s (documents will be included), The Devin PE5 was originally built by Jim Chaffee and called the Pink Elephant 5, originally Healey 3000 (6 cyl) powered. Chaffee installed the Chevrolet around 1961 or ’62 (unknown date), speculation is a chevy was installed after the Healey engine died. Frame is a race prepped Healey 3000 BJ frame. All receipts from the total restoration are included.
· Race History: Logbooks and Videos are available for Most of the Events by the current Owner. The current owner has an extensive cache of photos from events and videos prepared for the car’s current ownership history. Home Tracks are Watkins Glen and Lime Rock, car has raced at Indy, Mont Tremblant Canada, VIR, Road America, Pitt Race, Road Atlanta, Palmer, and many others.
· PE5 Appearance, Livery: Since the early 2000’s the car was Dark Green, Almost Black), in the late 2010's it had White Lipstick Vinyl added to the Front. In the late 201x teens-2020 the car was painted Blue and White (like a scarab). The Devin PE5 was recently repainted in the original Burgundy (pinkish) color. The Last Owner Completely rebuilt the entire car and replaced the Body with a Devin 295 body. The Windscreen is High Impact Lexan and uses halibrand Kidney bean appearing wheels.
· Log Books: Prior Owners campaigned the car in the CVAR and SVRA, those Logbooks are included. Current owner focused on the SVRA, VRG and VSCCA, HSR HRG and won a SVRA National Championship (2018) in the Devin PE5. Also the Books started with the Last Owner’s History in the Southwest (TX).
· Documentation: All Information from the prior owners are included with the Sale. Two Binders of every single part installed on the car, from brake pads, to all frame modifications, every part on the Engine, the Engine Build sheets, the Body and a full Bider documenting all rebuild and receipts for every part are included.
· Base Sale Spares: The base sales price includes 2 Sets of Wheels and Race Tires. Spares also include wheel bearings & Brake pads for race. I also have a packaged Turn signal kit (for Street driving) and Signals (Off the car) included with the sale. They were not needed in Florida (where I reside) for street use in 1959 automobile. Track Spares include: Fuel Pump, Carb and Water-pump Gaskets,
· Additional Spares: are available including a 20’ Race Trailer, Newly built Spare Engine, Full Race Track Service Package including Distributor, Street tires & wheels, etc.
· Maintenance: This car is simple to maintain, basically Fluids were changed before EVERY Event. Plugs on a regular basis (twice a season or as needed) and Engine was freshened every 2 or three years during current ownership. Timing Checked and Plugs read between rounds and all Wheel bearing changed annually when racing the car actively with up to 8 events a year.
· Motivation: The Current Owner races in F5000 and looking to move up in Race Groups.
