McLaren M6B
The M6B is the car to humiliate the T70 girls. It's just a better machine. For this reason, only a few have papers to race in the UK, I think this is one of three or four. With her smooth broad hips and red livery, she looks like a late night in paris on silk sheets in a cheap hotel. A memory maker every ride. A real warrior pricess in a red cocktail dress. If you need to ask your wife's permission to take on this firey mistress, jog on. This is a car for a proper fella, one who knows nothing about diversity and all about taking the fight to the enemy.
This is the story of her restoration:
Monocoque: Original chassis stripped down and re-assembled with L163 aluminium and rare original spec rivets
Bodywork: Lightweight M6B panels from original moulds fittedNew M6B screen installed with blue tint.
Motor : 302 Chevrolet (5 litre to suit W S Masters) Period block, from the pre-truck era, therefore lighter. Then cross bolted, line bored, bored + decked. GM Forged crank with correct 3” stroke. New Pistons. New Eagle Rods. RHS alloy heads rebuilt with new Valves and Springs. New Roller Cam. New alloy water pump. New oil/water pump belts. New lightweight geared starter. New flexplate/ring gear with new button flywheel. This is set to give you thundering race miles ahead. A thumping, stonking soundtrack to accompany your journey.
Carbs: The icing on the cake: Original Italian Webber 48IDA carbs rebuilt and installed on new manifold. These are rare and desireable.
Oil and Fuel System: New AFS bag tank in LH sidepod, 90% new oil and fuel plumbing in Torques Aeroquip style hose. New oil coolers on engine and gearbox. Original radiator pressure tested and re-installed with all new Silicone hoses.
Transaxle: Hewland LG600 5 speed from the running M10B swapped over without inspection and fitted with new oil and cooler. Sliding spline driveshafts installed. New master cylinders fitted to brake and clutch.
Suspension:New wishbones made from CDS tubing. New rod ends and sphericals installed. New alloy rear uprights with new EN24V hubs and bearings. NOS Mag front uprights with new EN24V hubs and bearings. Alloy Koni 8212 dampers on front (rebuilt). Alloy Armstrong dampers on rear (not rebuilt). Extended Alloy Koni 8212 dampers for rear (rebuilt) included but not on FIA papers.
New McLaren replica split rim wheels 14” rear and 10” front
Brakes: New correct M6B 16/3 Alloy calipers fitted all round. Vented discs professionally re-ground and installed with new brake mounting bells

This car is the one. It's her swoopy hips that make for fast corners. And using poise more than outright power, she's cheap to run, consuming far fewer components than her bigger M8 brother.
