Description:
Chassis No RA 9612 was built in 1996 as an AJP engined Tuscan Challenge Car for its original owner Geoff Evans and his Isle of Man Motorsport team. Geoff raced the car in the Tuscan Challenge for 3 seasons between 97-99 and was supported by HR Owen. This was the biggest one make race series in the UK in the 90s and introduced some of the UKs best racing drivers of that period.
Geoff ran a transport company that specialises in the transporting of goods to and from the Isle of Man, hence the Transmann original livery that the car stills wears today. 9612 has to be one of the most original Tuscan Challenge cars in existence, having only raced in 3 seasons (1x race in 2001) the car is still in its original and outstanding condition. Between 2010 and 2020 the car lived in the Isle of Man Motor Museum and had very little use other than the odd hillclimb. The original AJP engines were leased from the factory and when the factory closed Geoff sourced an original fully rebuilt factory engine from series organiser John Read.
Purchased from Geoff Evans in 2020 the car then went through Str8Six where it was fully recommissioned:
12K service inc valve clearances.
Engine checked for wear, found to be in excellent condition with signs of the original Nulon build grease still evident around cam buckets.
Ignition system replaced inc original type Bosch coils
Fuel system rebuilt inc new pumps, modern swirl pot, PTFE fuel lines.
Braking system rebuilt, new master cylinders, pads etc.
Front hubs crack tested.
Original Tremec 5 speed dog box with straight kit 5th, rebuilt & given clean bill of health.
The original GKN diff was swapped out for the later more reliable BTR plate diff.
Original MBE race ECU sent for deletion of engine timer.
New Odyssey Extreme battery, Sabelt seat, steering wheel and Schroth belts Exp 2026
New SPA Extreme fire extinguisher system, subsequently serviced in 2023.
Since the re-commission the car has run in a handful of events organised by Bernies V8s coming either first or second.
The car is in its original single seater configuration and comes with 2x sets of the original Dymag wheels which are in immaculate condition, 1x set with 1B tyres and 1x set with brand new Uniroyal Rain Sports.
Eligible to run in various events around the UK and Europe these Challenge race cars offer incredible value for money and have to be one of the most enjoyable cars to race on the planet. With current interest increasing year on year for this era of race car it shouldn’t be long until some of the Worlds most prestigious motorsport events will be knocking on the door for quality Tuscan Challenge Cars to run in their events.
For sale due to too many race car purchases.
