Crosslé success in Formula Ford 1600 and 2000 through the 1970’s positioned the company well for the 1977 launch of Sports 2000, a series for elegant yet relatively-affordable sports prototypes often sharing componentry with single-seaters. Famous race car constructors led to stunning cars, gifted drivers and epic racing that many remember with a smile.

The Crosslé 37S, 42S and 47S were less numerous than some Sports 2000s but their competitiveness was demonstrated when two 47S raced to podium finishes at the 1981 SCCA Runoffs at Road Atlanta, USA, against top opposition in Sports 2000’s most important market.

Crosslé 47S-81-04 is a 1981 model, factory-restored to as-new in 2019 and in exceptional condition. This car won its class in the 2021 Sports Protos Cup in France but has otherwise raced little and remains pristine.

Opportunities to race cars like this have rarely been better with a strong Sports 2000 series in England and, in recent years, historic endurance events in France for which Pinto-engined Sports 2000 are ideal. HVM offers five ‘200km de l’Historic Tour’ 90-minute races with two stops as part of its 2023 calendar, and the ‘Deux Tours d’Horloge’ 24 hour race for historic cars at Circuit Paul Ricard in November is a uniquely challenging and rewarding experience for drivers and teams. 2024 should be even better.

Many constructors built Sports 2000 cars in period but only Crosslé Car Company remains, offering potential buyers the unique benefit of Works support for a 1981 race car.

With endurance racing in mind this car has an 80-litre long distance, rapid-refill fuel tank with centre of gravity ideally placed and current FIA FT3 certificate. Crosslé offers additional endurance racing kit (not fitted to this car) including alternator and twin headlamp units for high-intensity lighting from enclosures integrated within the front bodywork as with other iconic prototypes from the early 1980’s.

This 47S includes:

- Tubular steel spaceframe with ROPS (and removable transverse cockpit strut) in 4130/T45 tube.

- Ford Pinto 2000 prepared by David Gathercole Race Engines

- Hewland Mk9 rebuilt by Crosslé in 2023

- Quantum Zero dampers specific to this model

- Bodywork pigmented in Tangerine GRP with black accessories, virtually as-new

- DMS LI-16 compact battery

- Lifeline Zero 2000 extinguisher, serviced before sale

Spares include the original ‘sprint’ fuel tank, four unused Avon wets on Revolution rims and a set of Hewland final ratios for 10:31 CWP. Every other component is available from Crosslé, mostly from stock.

Although not included in the sale, an FIA Historic Technical Passport for this 47S can be provided on request.
