With 35 original examples worldwide, each having a hefty value nearing £600,000 – £700,000 it’s not surprising the chances of seeing these beautiful cars out on track are slim.

In November 2014 the sister car “RWD 132” (one of the 35 original cars) sold for an incredible £673,500.

The first owner had an appreciation for these cars so commissioned renowned Austin Healey specialist Bill Rawles Classic Cars in fleet Hampshire.

Overseen by Bill himself, he set about finding a suitable chassis identified in a 1954 BN1, a Californian barn find, this is the start of what would be a 3-year project from start to finish.

Built on a new 100S lightweight chassis, aluminium panels including boot-bonnet and doors, aluminium body, 2900 hours going into coach building alone making sure attention to detail was correct. This extends through to the engine & gearbox, no stone left unturned to making sure this car was built to the correct specification using original 100S parts. The build quality and attention to detail is exceptional, credit to the Rawles family because without Bill’s knowledge and expertise, this car would not be possible.

Today “RWD 221” presents in perfect condition both underside and throughout, beautiful white and blue paint work, blue interior, 4 speed gear box, drivers harness, tonneau cover, wire wheels, re-moveable roll bar, flat folding split wind shields.

A detailed history file with correspondence between Bill Rawles Classic Cars, time sheets detailing work carried, invoices, returning last April 2023 for its annual service, photos on file with both Bill & Jack Rawles at Goodwood with Jack behind the wheel around Goodwood motor Circuit.

Presented in race-ready condition or enjoyed on the road or as intended on the track, this 100S is legible for all the most important historic races, if that be Pre 63 with Equipe Racing or “The Pall Mall Cup” Legends Race Series here in the UK, Le Mans Classic, Goodwood or alternatively the ever-popular road rallies – Tour Auto and Mille Miglia, a very complete and competitive car.
