Chevron B23/M36

Description:

1973 Chevron B23-M36 with Craig Beck BDG

Chassis number B23-73-25 is the penultimate B23 chassis built  by Chevron Cars in 1973 and was intended for use in the FIA 'Championship of Makes' and South Africa's popular Springbok series. It was returned to Chevron in 1976 where it was enhanced with a roll cage and B36 specification bodywork. This allowed a second Chevron identity to be issued - M36-76-05 and both the original and upgraded plates are fitted to the car. Following its modifications this re-bodied B23/M36 was actively raced in Europe, including rounds at Mugello and Vallelunga. Between 1981 and 1988 it was campaigned with a 1600cc rather than 2000cc via a FG400 Hewland transaxle; It then went to Italy competing in Hillclimbs and while there was restored with the fitment of new floors, Lockheed braking system, starter motor, small capacity (hillclimb-sized) fuel cell, plumbing and paintwork.

In 1999 it went to the USA where it raced at Portland, receiving lighter bodywork, and the 1600cc engine replaced with a 2litre Cosworth BDG unit. Later receiving a second no-expense-spared restoration via West Coast expert Neil Porter. It also received its present livery at this time.

It returned to the UK in 2010 and obtained its MSA Historic Technical Passport the following year. It was then raced successfully in the HSCC Martini class, now powered by a Craig Beck Cosworth BDG engine, and was last raced successfully at Dijon and the Oulton Park Gold Cup in 2013 where it had outright wins.

It has remained in storage as part of a family collection since its previous outing and now awaits a new owner to further its racing credentials.

This car comes with two sets of spare wheels/tyres. Mid and front section bodywork replacements in current livery. Along with a number of original B23 items such as fuel tanks and bodywork.

It also comes with original RAC Scrutineering certificate dated 1977, original period Chevron Cars receipts for roll cage and fuel tank modifications dated 1977 and 1980 respectively and its Italian Racing passport from 1985.

It is currently located in Fife, Scotland but can be transported to Craig Beck Racing, Newmarket, England for serious considerations.

The price has been revised to take into consideration the cost of making this car race ready. Offers considered.
