Description:
Elva MK 6 for sale chassis no 60-029
This is a known car with full history bought from the estate of the former Elva registrar for North America John Lindsey who owned the car for many years. The car featured in the Elva history book and is the “yellow” car on page 284. Originally sold to and raced by American Don Wolfe in 1963 and was used extensively in club and national events with a Coventry climax engine. Most notable outing was at the 1963 road America 500 race where it featured against the cobra of Ken Miles, the race being won by the Elva MK 7 (Porsche) of Wuesthoff and Pabst. The car was then bought by Jack Lawrence achieving two wins in 64/65 at Watkins Glen and National Cumberland. The car was converted to an Alfa Romeo engine then sold in 66 and bought by John Lindsey a few years later.
The car is in the UK and is being offered as a restoration project to purchase as is, or to be restored by us here at TS Historic to a high standard and the new owners spec. The car is offered complete with donor Climax engine and Hewland gearbox. The car is 95% complete only missing some gauges, front brakes, exhaust etc all parts that can be bought ‘off the shelf’. The car does come with a complete new body (under section no photographed but included.) new suspension ( and originals as spares), new water system including radiators etc, new cast rear uprights with some modifications to suit the car, pedal assembly and much more. Also included are two full sets of (very rare and sought after) original Elva magnesium wheels. The car has 2 original 5 gallon aluminium fuel tanks, and a pair of aluminium 'finned' brake drums with back plates.
Chassis:
The chassis is an original Elva and remains largely unmodified except for a few additional brackets welded on such as new fuel tank mounts, new taller to spec roll hoop has also been fitted. The chassis itself is in very good condition with only minor work needing to be carried out to be ready to go.
Gearbox:
The gear box is a Hewland with a side change centre case. Complete with diff unit, crown wheel and pinion c/w gear hubs, input shaft, side plates c/w output shafts, all casings. A new Hewland to Climax adapter plate is also included.
Engine:
The Engine is relatively unknown but should provide a good base for a race engine to be built. A Pair of weber 40’s are included.
This car when completed will be eligble for many high profile historic events. Such as Silverstone Classic, Goodwood etc.
Project Price: £35,000
