In 1947, racing enthusiast Frank Nichols purchased a small garage in Westham and started his racing career. It was not long before he moved to larger premises in Bexhill, Sussex, where there was already a burgeoning racing community. After campaigning various race cars he resolved to produce and sell his own design, and in1955, he founded Elva engineering company.

This lovely example, is a rare 1957 alloy bodied Elva Mk11 – sometimes referred to as the Mk11B as is incorporates features from both the Mk11 and Mk111 – and is one of only 13 built.

It currently runs a 1,100cc FWA Coventry Climax engine with a DeDion rear end and drum brakes all round.

It has a good lineage of overseas racing, and a racing history that goes back to 1958.  The then owner, Dan-San Abbot raced at notable places such as Laguna Seca, Sonoma and Monterey. More recently, the car was driven at Bahamas Speed Week where it finished second in class.

Accompanying the car is a folder showing photos of the Elva racing in period, as well as receipts and racing log books dating back to the mid-80’s further illustrating the cars racing pedigree.

The current owner has had the car set-up by INRACING and has only used it for a couple of test days since.

Body work is not pristine, but it wears it’s patina well, from a life time of racing.

The Elva comes with a valid FIA HTP until December 2027.

This car is not only eligible, but is almost guaranteed entry to some of the world’s most prestigious historic events and series. Including Griffiths Haig (drum brake)Trophy, Stirling Moss Trophy, Goodwood and Historic Le Mans.

We feel the car would only require minor re-commissioning before racing again – dependent on series regulations.  

Being road legal, this Elva can also be enjoyed as a historic car off track, and is certain to turn heads whether on or off the track.
