Description:

This S2 Elan left the Lotus factory on 24th May 1965 and was exported to Dutchess Auto Co. in the USA.

In the late 1960s the car was owned by Peter Elkhart, and American engineer who was involved in the development of the Accusump oil system - he was also the owner of an S1 Elan which he raced - he blew the engine in a road race and bought this S2 to provide a replacement engine!

For many years both the S1 and S2 sat in a barn on the side of a mountain in New Jersey - the first photo shows both cars. They were discovered in 2013 and both cars made their way to different owners in the UK. Both were eventually bought by me, unaware they were linked.

The restoration of the S1 is now almost complete and the time has come to sell the S2 - for full restoration.

Included in the sale are the following:-

- vehicle ID and original body, windscreen frame, doors, boot lid and light pods

- original, very rusty chassis

- original suspension, including rear uprights and front and rear bolt on hubs (but not wheels)

- original engine block (matching numbers to original car)

- a 3.97 diff

- a new Tony Thompson hard top

- a pair of rear lights

- steering column

- an original Stanpart radiator

I have the correct Certificate of Provenance from Lotus and documentation confirming all duties have been paid (it can receive a 1965 registration number once  MOT'd).

A wonderful restoration opportunity or chance to rebuild as a 26r/GTS style car.
