William I'Anson Ltd are honoured to offer for sale the Ex - Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Bruce Halford 1958 Lotus 16. 

This is the first single seater Lotus to be driven by the great Jim Clark.

Presented at the 1958 Earls Court Motor Show and bought from the stand by John Fisher for Bruce Halford.

Used by Lotus in a test at Brands Hatch where prospective buyers could sample a Lotus 16. Demonstrated on that day by Graham Hill and famously tested by Jim Clark, who tried the car before his first single seater race.

Driven to victory in its first race by Graham Hill at the 1958 Boxing day Brands Hatch meeting, making it the first single seater victory for both Lotus and Graham Hill.
Raced by Bruce Halford throughout the 1959 season including the 1959 Monaco Grand Prix.

Sold to Tony Kotze in South Africa in early 1960 and raced by him in the 1960 and 1961 South African Grand Prix.

Repatriated to England in 1968 and inspected by Denis Jenkins in 1988, when in Robin Lodge’s collection. Jenks’ notes how original the car still with, with the repaired front end and about the unquestionable history.

Purchased by the current owner in 2014 still in unrestored condition. Having raced another Lotus 16, with great success for 25 years, he set about restoring 362-2 to it’s former glory.

As such 362-2 is offered here fresh from said restoration, painted in John Fisher’s livery from 1959, with an up to date specification Coventry Climax FPF engine from Chris Gilbert of Init Racing, and new FIA Papers.

The Lotus 16 is widely regarded as the ultimate entry to the prestigious front engined Grand Prix grids of the Monaco Historics and Good Revival and this car, with its illustrious history and period drivers, is no exception.
