Description:

This 1998 Swift 008/014 Formula Atlantic race car was purchased new for use in the Pro-Atlantic Series by Lynx Racing. The team had four 008’s in its inventory at the time and this car, chassis #007, was their test chassis. After it’s time with Lynx it was stored for a number of years before it passed to a second owner who ran it three times, after which it was acquired by a Pro-Atlantic team based in Iowa City, Iowa. Under that team, #007 qualified for the 2007 SCCA Runoffs. The seller purchased the Swift four years ago and has only track tested it for 8 laps in 2014 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The Swift is in original 008 configuration with 014 upgrades, and runs on a rebuilt Hasselgren Engineering powertrain consisting of a 1.6 liter Toyota 4AGE inline-four mated to a Hewland NST 5 speed sequential gearbox. It is vintage eligible in SVRA and most sanctioning organizations, and carries a CART registration #206. The racer is being sold with a clean SCCA Logbook, factory manuals, homologation certificate, and a large cache of spare body and mechanical parts.
The Chassis was strengthened in 2000 at the Swift factory with new laminated chassis supports, and the chassis was upgraded with the addition of 014 tunnels, uprights, and wheels. All chassis points are scribed to match the chassis number. The chassis is constructed of carbon/epoxy pre-preg with an aluminum honeycomb core monocoque. The bulkheads are carbon/epoxy and aluminum for added strength and stiffness. The partially-stressed engine is mounted to a magnesium bell housing, with additional support provided by chrome-moly steel trunnions.
The body was stripped and repainted at in 2014 in the existing blue and white paint scheme by Carl Haas. The front and rear wings are carbon/epoxy pre-preg and are independently adjustable.
The Swift’s suspension is comprised of unequal length A-arms with a multi-positioned pushrod rocker up front, and unequal length A-arms with an actuated pushrod rocker in the rear. Additionally, it’s equipped with cast magnesium uprights in front and rear, and cockpit adjustable blade-type anti-roll bars. Steering is rack and pinion with a MOMO steering wheel.
The brake system utilizes fully vented cast iron 313mm x 24mm floating discs on all fours with Brembo 4-piston calipers. Three sets of wheels are included – two sets of 15″ BBS forged aluminum wheels that measure 22.5″ x 9.5″ in the front, and 23.5″ x 11.0″ in the rear, and one set of Dunlop aluminum transport wheels
The cockpit features new AIM EVO-4 instrumentation that was installed December 2016, and the electrical system is controlled by a Pectel ECU with remote battery hookup. A lightweight alternator has been installed with an 11.6V on-board alarm. Safety provisions include new Willans racing belts added in December 2016 that are good until 2021, and a fire system that was installed in 2011. Car comes with two seats, one to accommodate a 6' driver, and another just-poured seat that will accommodate a driver under 6'.
The Hasselgren Engineering 1.6 liter 4AGE Toyota fuel-injected inline-four has dual overhead cams and ceramic coated headers. The engine delivers power to the rear wheels via a Salisbury-type differential with various ramp options and roller shims, and a Hewland NST 5-speed sequential gearbox utilizing a stressed aluminum case with integral suspension mounting. The entire powertrain was rebuilt by Olsson Engineering out of Lake Forest, Illinois in 2011 and has very littel run time since the work was completed. Leak down tests show the motor in excellent shape. A Tilton clutch has seven races on it.
Cooling is achieved through a left sidepod-mounted Fluidyne water system with pre-pressurization capability. The car uses a dry sump oil system with the oil tank incorporated within the bell housing. A heat exchanger is mounted to the right inlet duct. The 15 gallon fuel cell is FIA FT3 approved with submerged twin fuel pumps that are internal to the cell and were located in monocoque in 2011
A collection of spare parts is included in the sale and can be seen in the image gallery below. All of the spare body parts have been painted in the same color scheme and consist of a nose cone, original 008 side tunnels, a cowl cover, two diapers (one new), three pairs of rear wing end plates, two sets of high and low downforce front wing end plates, a set of rear wing supports, a roll hoop cover assembly, a new road course helmet collar, and a used oval helmet collar. A new spare carbon fibre air intake tunnel and custom body panel stand are also included.
Mechanical spares include a wooden box of gears (30 sets included with 1 set in gearbox), a gear setup/change tool, spare shift forks, a selection of Hypercoils and Eibach springs from 500# to 800#, body support rods, suspension links with rod ends, alignment bars, sway bars and hardware, a set of four uneven carbon-fiber velocity stacks, a new ultra lightweight header, muffler, Micro-V AT belts, exhaust manifold gaskets, brake pads, and a CV joint. Two sets of wheels are also included.
Extensive documentation from previous owners and current ownership include a clean SCCA logbook, a Swift factory manual, various parts manuals, technical info, race results, a homologation certificate, and numerous receipts from work performed over the years.

This is a very clean Formula Atlantic car at any price range.  I'm selling only because I haven't had the time to use it.
