LOTUS TWIN CAM RACE ENGINE - SOLD

Description:

This Lotus Twin Cam engine was fitted to my F Atlantic car in 1971 and has been in my ownership ever since.  In 1973 I crashed the car and the engine then sat untouched until 1992 when a rebuild commenced.  Sadly the engine builder died and the job was never completed.  I collected the part built engine and it was then in storage again until 2016 when I decided to have it completely stripped and inspected ready for sale.

This has been undertaken by Mike Tarr at Ratt Racing, Torquay (a Lotus twin cam specialist) and is nearing completion (photos showing as is).  He has inspected all the components in order that we know exactly what is in inside and replaced any parts that are suspect.  The engine will be left with the sump and cylinder head off ready for inspection and can be completed depending on the buyer’s wishes.

This engine has not run for 44 years, as can be seen from the timeline, and the cylinder head is a particularly good example with excellent porting and none of the ravages of time.  The engine comes with the flywheel and single plate AP ‘A-Ring’ racing clutch that were fitted in 1971 when it was mated to a Hewland FT200.  There is also the ‘up and’ over exhaust fabricated by ‘Mike the Pipe’ which has some damage from the accident in 1973.

BLOCK:  “L” Block with Steel Caps & new Core Plugs.

CRANKSHAFT:  Ford All Steel 6 Bolt with Double Webs.

CON RODS:  Cosworth with new ARP Bolts.

PISTONS:  New.

CYLINDER HEAD.  Excellent Condition.  Fully Ported with new Bronze Valve Guides to exhaust.

VALVES:  Steel Valves with new Race Springs & Tops.

                 Inlet:  1.625” Dia.

                 Exhaust:  1.370” Dia.

CAMSHAFT:  High Lift & thought to be Phase IV.

                       Lift:         Inlet:  442”.

                                      Exhaust:  .370”.

LUBRICATION:  Dry Sump.

OIL PUMP:  Charles Lucas Dry Sump Pump overhauled with new rotors.

IGNITION:  Electronic.

CARBURETTORS: Twin 48 DCOE Webers.

FLYWHEEL:  As used in conjunction with the clutch below & Hewland FT200.

CLUTCH COVER PLATE:  Marked AP Racing CP2141.  This is a steel cover ‘A-Ring’ clutch & the part number no longer exists in the AP Racing catalogue.  I think the equivalent is CP2116.  Do not rely & please check.
