Description:
Tornado Talisman ‘547SYC’
First registered 1963. Believed originally one of only four ‘touring’ specification Talisman cars produced. Purchased in 2007 with a view to restoration and rebuild to FIA specification. Rebuilt across 2008/9 and, despite having been used sparingly due to family commitments, the car has been the subject of continued upgrade and development. The Talisman is a rare car with all independent suspension and a highly tuneable Ford engine.
Brief specification:
Original chassis – shot blasted, lightened and strengthened where possible. Original chassis number clearly visible and matching to V5 details
Front suspension – rebuilt. Uses GT6 uprights and front hubs. Type 14 callipers / spitfire discs / race pads. Front anti-roll bar fitted (factory option and FIA legal)
Rear suspension – recently rebuilt with strengthened drive shafts and larger bearings. Uprights remanufactured and geometry sorted. Lightweight, large capacity, diff case with 4.1 diff and plate type LSD. The original independent suspension layout is very good – twin training arms and twin transverse arms with the drive shaft providing the top link.
Original body – rebuilt. Replacement lightweight bonnet, doors and boot lid from the original moulds (all moulds still exist for the Tornado). Finished in period Aston Martin green with Old English White stripe
T45 cage with door bars
Period seats, instruments and switches etc
Engine – all steel 1360 Ford pre-crossflow which shows approx. 128 bhp on rolling road. Twin 40s (as original). One race since re-fresh. Large capacity radiator
Gearbox – SCCR inside a steel casing. Magnesium bellhousing. Ali remote and tail-housing
Professionally rewired to lightweight ‘aircraft’ standard
Ali foam filled fuel tank with additional collector pot
Choice of steel or ‘minilight’ style wheels
Very predictable handling with few vices. FIA papers lapsed but in the process of renewal. Ran strongly at Goodwood in 2014 and likely to be considered again in the future; it was highlighted in Classic and Sportscar magazine as one of their Revival favourites that year.
For sale to fund other projects. Price negotiable depending on final specification
