Description:

Cannon GT 1964

Designed, built and raced by Mike Cannon, noted constructor of his series of all-conquering trials cars.

Inspired by his wish to compete with some friends who raced in the then current up to 1150cc GT Championship, Cannon produced this, his answer to the Diva 10F. It features a unique fibreglass and aluminium body over a tubular steel spaceframe with all-independent suspension and all-wheel disc brakes.

The engine is a FJ spec. dry sumped 1100cc precrossflow Ford. A steel crank, rods and main bearing caps are fitted, as are forged pistons, alloy flywheel, duplex chain driven A6 cam and Martin rocker gear.

The gearbox is an early Mk1 lotus Cortina item with alloy bell- and tailshaft housings. Front suspension is similar to the Lotus 23, whilst the rear suspension is largely Elan 26R and final drive is via a LSD. Front brakes have period alloy calipers whilst rears are standard Elan. Wheels are peg-driven via 26R hubs. the wheels currently fitted are modern, but two sets of the original 26R wheels are included for display purposes only.

The car is in excellent, recently restored condition and in almost entirely original spec. with an HSCC VIF. It has Goodwood potential, could be a winner in the right hands, and generates great interest wherever it appears.

A covered trailer can be negotiated.
