Description:
This is one of the very few genuine period Crossle sports cars, built for the 1966 European Sports Car Championship and has been driven by the likes of Mervyn Wingfield and Peter Gethin. It has been sorted and sympathetically developed over a long period of time to be the most competitive and reliable of these cars, and with the specific requirement to tackle the six and eight hour European historic races.
The car has proven to be very reliable and hugely competitive. All systems such as engine cooling, lubrication, brakes and fuelling have been properly developed for endurance racing, but with due consideration for period appearance and proper compliance with the Appendix K rules. At the events, we just put fuel in and change drivers. The car runs a 2 litre Lester Owen built BMW M10 engine mated to a Hewland FT 200 gearbox. It can also run with a Ford Twin Cam and a Hewland Mk9 and has FIA papers to support either specification.
On track it's fully competitive against the Chevron B8 and B16 sports racers, but is for sale at a fraction of the price tag. The time and money spent developing the car to where it stands today have resulted in many race wins including the Dijon 3 and 6 hour, Val De Vienne 6 hour, Magny-Cours 12 hour and the highlight of victory winning the Spa Six hour race in 2004.
Included in the price is a fully comprehensive spares package including complete spare body work, 4 additional sets of wheels, gear ratio's, suspension and drive train components ect. All spares have been documented and can be viewed upon request. There is also a full history folder with all the car setup information and gearing used at various european circuits.
