Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RS / RSR Group 4 – 1974 – HTP
Description:
Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RS / RSR Group 4 – 1974 – DMSB HTP – Freshly Rebuilt – 335 PS
For sale is an exceptional 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RS / RSR Group 4 racing car, built to full RSR specification and presented in virtually as-new condition.
The Porsche 3.0 RS / RSR represents one of the most fascinating and uncompromising chapters in early 911 motorsport history. Developed as the evolution of the legendary 2.7 RS and as the basis for competition in the former Group 4 category, the 3.0 RS/RSR marked the transition from the lightweight, purist 911 to the wide-bodied, highly specialised GT racing car. Wide arches, consistent lightweight construction, large braking system, racing suspension and the high-revving air-cooled flat-six make these cars among the most desirable historic 911 racing cars today.
The car offered here was built to a very high standard, with great attention paid to historical correctness. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the basis of the car is a correct 1974 car — and not, as is often the case with simpler or lower-quality builds, a later converted SC. This is an important distinction, both in terms of authenticity and in the overall harmonious appearance of the car.
The bodywork and build were carried out by Ingo Stimming. The body modifications were executed to a high standard in metal, rather than using simple add-on or compromise solutions. The wheel arch extensions also correspond exactly to the early RS/RSR design: metal-built, rounded, harmonious and period-correct — not the later, more angular Turbo-style extensions often used on many replicas. As a result, the car conveys a particularly authentic, cohesive and historically convincing impression.
The Porsche features full RSR specification for Group 4 and comes with a DMSB HTP, making it a highly interesting entry for historic motorsport events.
The engine originally came from Manfred Rugen and was most recently rebuilt by Mittelmotor. On the dyno, the engine produced an impressive 335 PS. Since this engine rebuild, the car has only been driven once for a rollout. The gearbox was subsequently overhauled as well, and the car has not been used since. Engine and gearbox are therefore practically fresh and in correspondingly excellent condition.
The chassis has also been further upgraded with a newly installed adjustable coilover suspension, perfectly suited to the car’s uncompromising Group 4 specification and racing purpose. Paintwork, mechanicals and the overall condition are outstanding and virtually as new. Both visually and technically, the car presents itself as an extremely high-quality, ready-to-use historic racing car.
Two sets of wheels are included with the car.
