Description:
Radical 2018 SR1 turbo. 350bhp 480kg.
Faster, better handling and lower maintenance costs than SR8 (2 seconds per minute faster than the much heavier SR8 in the hands of the same driver)
Usual Radical spec, including AIM dash display, paddle shift 6 speed transmission, dry sump system. AIM Smarty Cam system. Upgraded Intrax dampers.
Very fresh bodywork on the car, not the usual beat-up race car look.
Life Racing F88 ECU unlocked and fully upgraded including:
· Closed loop fuelling
· Full advanced knock control
· Closed loop adjustable boost control
· Traction control
· Launch control.
Boost and traction control targets are adjustable on the dashboard.
Motorsport ABS system fitted with adjustable settings for different grip conditions.
Radical Gen3 1340cc based engine, now fully upgraded to turbo spec. Built to support 550bhp.
Wossner turbo pistons. Wossner HD steel rods. New genuine Suzuki bearings.
Ferrea stainless intake valves. Ferrea Inconel exhaust valves.
APE valve springs, top caps and Viton seals. APE adjustable cam sprockets and HD cam chain and billet tensioner.
Cometic gaskets throughout.
ARP cylinder head studs, large flange nuts and HD main bearing studs.
New clutch assembly with uprated and preloaded springs and billet centre.
Uprated fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. Latest spec ID1000X fuel injectors
Custom intake plenum with internal velocity stacks for efficient use of boost.
Custom equal length stainless steel headers with double seal slip joints.
Garrett external wastegate exiting through separate stainless silencer.
Garrett G30-900 billet wheel turbo for low back pressure on exhaust. This may appear oversized for the application, but it allows the engine to breathe and rev freely, as if it were normally aspirated and as a result, it needs less boost to make good power with lower engine stress. An intercooler is in the sidepod with properly engineered ducting ensuring high efficiency.
350bhp at just 0.7 bar of boost (10 psi) Push to Pass button on steering wheel, takes boost to 1.0 bar which is estimated to be 400bhp (wheelspin on dyno) I have genuinely never needed this to pass on track!
Full closed loop gearshift via Life Racing ECU, with revised mapping to be way gentler on the transmission than the original clunky Radical calibration. Includes optional auto upshift of gears when approaching a preassigned rpm, great for eliminating rev limiter bashing. Perfectly timed upshifts every time. Also includes auto blip on downshifts, fully protected from over rev by the ECU.
Full range of datalogging and safety controls within the ECU, initially as warnings on the dash, escalating where required to ECU internal corrections such as lowering boost, retarding ignition timing, enriching fuel and lowering rpm limits. If you chose to ignore all this, the ECU would ultimately apply limp modes, where appropriate, to ensure the mechanical integrity of the engine and transmission. This is not the usual ‘bolt on turbo and hope for the best’ Advanced knock control will also advance/retard as required and store revised ignition timing maps on an individual cylinder basis.
The car also has full closed loop launch and traction control so is well suited to Sprint or Hillclimb type work as well as having the cooling package and uprated brakes, to comfortably run 20 lap races.
The car, in turbo spec has done testing plus 4 races and 1 sprint event (winning them all) The last event was in October (2024) Knockhill, Pole position, Race win and fastest Modsports lap of the season at 49.2 seconds (faster than BTCC)
New harness and plumbed in extinguisher system all in date. New Quaife ATB differential also fitted.
The car was built and mapped to this spec by me. As a recently retired Race/Calibration Engineer with 40 years’ experience building race winning cars, I know what it takes to make a race car reliable. The engine has only 4 running hours since build.
£38,000 as listed above or £34,000 less the Motorsport ABS (this would also remove traction control)
Car is in Scotland but can be shipped overseas at cost. Example shipping cost, last year I shipped my Radical SR8 turbo (built and mapped by me) to the USA. £2400 (includes marine insurance,19 days at sea)
