WV Scirocco GTi Mk1
Description:
Description: Prepared for HSCC 70s Road Sports but only raced once in 2019 and has been in storage since, although passed a MOT test in May '23.
This car is complete and as raced but due to the lack of use would benefit from a general refresh. For example the harnesses and fire extinguisher were new in 2018, but would now require replacement.
Engine: This is a correct 'EG' code 1.6 GTI engine, which has the desirable 'H' code (heavy duty) block. The cylinder head has been ported and polished as has the inlet manifold, importantly, and it is fitted with a Kent GS2 camshaft and a vernier timing gear. A 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust manifold is connected to a 2" Jetex exhaust and the airbox has been modified and fitted with a performance filter.
This engine was completely rebuilt and the car has been set up on the Stealth rolling road making 134.9 BHP (110 standard).
Spring / dampers: The car is fitted with a new Gaz Gold coilovers, with the appropriate springs and valved to suit. The front top mounts are the uprated and rare 'Bonrath' type (which weren't easy to track down) and rear are polyurethane.
Steering: The car was fitted with new wishbones and various replacement joints at the time of the rebuild. It is poly bushed throughout and the geometry has been modified accordingly.
Ignition: Manufacturers standard electronic ignition.
Gearbox: 'FM' type (standard) close ratio gearbox, with a higher 3.67 final drive. 75W/90 synthetic oil (just changed)
Brakes: Recent replacement NOS front discs with Ferrodo DS 3000 pads. Rebuilt rear brakes with new wheel cylinders and shoes. DOT 5.1 competition brake fluid. Braided hoses.
Wheels / Tyres: JBW Minilight type wheels 14x6 in size. Nankang AR-1 185/60x14 tyres.
Safety: Full weld in cage fitted by Slidesports Motorsport. New (2019) Sparco Grid 2 seat, with Sparco 6 point harness, plumbed in Lifeline fire extinguisher (now out of date).
Weight: The car weighs 834kg with the bumpers fitted and a quarter of a tank of fuel. It can run at 800kg for the 70s Road Sports giving a power to weight ratio of 168.2 BHP/ton.
Bodywork: The car was extensively restored in 2010, (see images), but would now benefit from a fresh respray as stickers and number roundels have damaged the paint.
General: Painted in it's original Baikal Blue. Road registered with a current V5 Registration Document and passed a MOT test in May 2023.
Suitable for many UK Race Series including HSCC, CSCC, Equipe Classic Racing & HRDC
