Elva Courier MkIV T-Type 1964 – Rare Opportunity

 

Selling a race prepared Elva Courier MkIV T-Type. This is a historically important car in the Elva field. Supported by the Elva register, this car, chassis number T-1194 was originally manufactured in 1964 as a MkIV. It was painted Forest Green and was powered by a Ford 1500GT engine. Shipped to the USA on the 2nd December 1964. The car was then returned to the UK, rebuilt and modified by Tony Ellis Sportscars and re-registered in 1968 as a T-Type. Documentation with the car from Tony Ellis supports this. The car was taken to New Zealand.

The car was further developed by Tony Ellis using the Minnowfish Carburettor with a turbocharger, this featured in the January 1973 edition of Cars and Car Conversions. The car went with Ellis went he emigrated to New Zealand in 1974 where it was sold on fairly soon afterwards. Sold on again in 1983 it found its way to Virginia, USA. It was repatriated again to the UK in 2012 and sold to the current owner in 2013.

The car has since then undergone a substantial rebuild, preparing the car for historic racing. The body has been removed from the chassis, the chassis repaired and rebuilt with a welded roll cage by Brady Fabrications. The car was then repainted in Red. The engine was built by Peter Burgess as a full race engine running through a Weber DCOE carb. A bespoke Exhaust system has been fitted.

The car has been built up over the years by a number of well known motorsport specialists. All parts of the car are new or refurbished. The car was built with FIA in mind and has adhered to the papers as much as possible.
