1994 Porsche C4, 959 Paris to Dakar Rally car Replica

This high end custom build was created by Damon Josz of “Series900”, a custom 911 restoration shop in New Hampshire. Damon took on the 10 year project to research and build an authentic replica of the 1986 Paris to Dakar 959 rally car driven by famed Porsche Designer/Driver Roman Kussmaul. Over 300 photos of the original car were reviewed to ensure authenticity. Customized livery decals and factory schemed paint complete the replication.

A significant amount of fabrication was required including: customfiberglass body panels, aluminum rear cross member, shaved gutters, spare under the rear window, skid pad, cockpit vented mirrors, Lexan side windows, hood bulge for large fuel cell, custom machined 928 wheels, manually adjustable hydraulic differential controls, and roof brake lights. The stock 964 3.6 engine, G50 trans, and drivetrain was retained. Custom side mounted oil fill and tank, and an under spoiler oil cooler were fabricated. 

For the suspension, Cross Coil over shocks was used all around. The car rides about 4 inches higher than stock. The two sets of custom wheels were machined from seven slot 928 forgings. Pirelli PZero195/65/16 mud and snow tires are on the car. A full set with BFG 215/65/16 also come with the car, with one spare mounted under the rear window on the roll bar. A custom fiberglass skid pad protects the front suspension. Four 8 inch fog lights and two horns are fitted to the front bumper along with Lexan headlight covers.

Great attention was made to ensure that the interior is presented as the car was race prepped. It has full welded in roll cage, Recaro seats and Sparco belts. All of the dash gauges, switches, and warning lights are as raced. The speedo and Odometer are inoperable, these functions being intended to be performed by the Vintage Halda Ralley computer. Vents in the side mirrors and sliding ports in the Lexan side windows provide cockpit air.

Recent service receipts from Dawes Motorsport are provided, along with a clean actual miles South Carolina title in the current owner’s name. The current owner is available to answer questions, and the builder can provide ongoing support if desired. 

An original sold at Rm Sotheby’s auction for 4.6 million Pounds a few years ago. Here is a chance to buy the only replica known, and drive it hard…I am thinking it could win the Targa Newfoundland vintage race!
