Description:
Championship Winning 1996 BMW E36 328 Coupe
Engine - M52, with M3 EVO Throttle Bodies and bespoke air box/plenum and M3 injectors. Newman fast road cams, oil cooler, ported head, bespoke vortex exhaust. All work done by Autos and Sportos and live mapped by Wayne at Chipwizards. With a 7200rpm rev limit, 280.9bhp at 6870rpm and an almost perfect torque curve (paperwork supplied).
The engine was refreshed (just preventative as it was on original shells etc) by Lewis at Rushworth Engines in 2022, with additional porting, new shells, chain etc. Oil is changed every other Race. Also recent bosch coils, relays, radiator, thermostat, and plugs. Twin Fuel pump set up (new pumps in 2022) runs perfect to empty.
Transmission – JC Racing 6 plate medium case LSD with 3:73 ratio which is perfect for the car! TTV lightweight flywheel and CG Motorsport single plate clutch fitted when engine was rebuilt. I run the Gatrag 5 speed gearbox out of the 318is, the reason is the weight saving, great ratios and ease to change it (I will include 3x spare used boxes with the sale, I have only changed them twice in 5 years, never had one fail, oil changed regularly, loads are available very cheaply). Recent new Drive shafts (approx 3 races ago, as a precaution).
Body/Chassis – No Rust, Safety Devices cage with extra B bar and Harness bars made from T45. Completely polybushed with M3 E30 Alloy Lower Arms and M3 Lollipops. M3 front spoiler with a splitter and GT rear spoiler. Front top and lower strut braces. Momo Steering wheel, bespoke gear stick, new ACW tinted Lexan side windows with GT sliders. Corbeau Seat, PD extinguisher and system (needs first service), 5 point Harness in date.
Brakes – M3 rear brakes, Compbrake 4 pot front calipers, with Compbrake Rotas and Hawk race pads, Remote bias brake adjustment, all braided lines, no servo or ABS (Brakes are awesome). Only fitted 7 races ago.
Suspension - Intrax cost over £3k (early 2023), done 7 events since fitting, these were made for the car and the current spec. All corner weighted and geometry is spot on (done in 2023).
This was my first race car bought in late 2019 (I didn’t even do any track days before starting racing….), was a mates car (who bought it as a road car and first raced it) he won the NSSCC Championship in it in 2016.
The car has continued through my ownership to be developed/maintained by Scott at Autos and Sportos, the result is one of the fastest 328s available. The car is fully stripped and lightened, its had a huge amount of time, effort (and money spent…) it weighs just 1076kg race ready (so that’s 261bhp/ton). Its got huge torque and grip, its very predictable and fun to drive. I wasn’t going to sell it but a change in circumstance means I am going to reluctantly put it up (but I am not desperate to sell it, as I know I’ll regret it….).
Its finished in Porsche Signal green and stands out nicely. Its very reliable and ready to race. Its well maintained and most parts are not very old on it, however its been a race car for 10 years so it does has some bumps, repairs and scrapes and the paint finish on boot and bonnet arent the best, but its definatley very presentable.
Below are the cars results;
2014 – Outright wins in Kumho Cup as a 318is.
2015 - NSSCC Class B winner as 318is.
Converted to a 328.
2016 – NSSCC Overall Champion (14 class wins, out of 16)
2017 – 750MC Roadsports, 2x class wins and 3rd in class from 3 races done.
2018 – 750MC Roadsports, 1x class win and a 2nd in class (only 2 races done)
2020 – NSSCC 2nd in Class B for Championship (Novice, no race or trackday experience and against over 3000cc and Turbo Cars too)
2021 – NSSCC 2nd in Class B for season (2x class wins, 2x 2nd in class) again against over 3000cc and turbo cars.
2022 – NSSCC 3rd in Class B for season (had a new ‘expensive’ Mishimoto thermostat fail!! and fuel pump relay fail so had 2x DNFs! The cars has finished all other events entered during my ownership i.e. over 20 events)
2023 – NSSCC did selected rounds only (still finished 4th in Class for the season) and car last competed at Silverstone in the Birkitt race in late October with no issues running for 3 hours. Since then it has been dry stored, started/warmed up and driven a short distance regularly.
The car will come with various spares (Lots!). Its on 17” Grey 2Z Semi Forged Alloys with Nankang AR1s, with a set of used 4x 17” M3 alloys with Uniroyal Rainsports (used once), and 2x spare used 17" BMW alloys with used Nankang Ar1s.
Car is located between Pocklington and Driffield, East Yorks.
