For Sale MGB Roadster 1963 Lightweight race car.
This car has been in development for 3 years The original car is an ex dry state American roadster with mint chassis and floor sections. All American import paperwork is available the car was built as a race car and has been all its life so no V5 available.
The design of the car was based on the renowned MGB SCCA racer Dave Headley's last race MGB, with many parts sourced from the USA/FAB-TEK Dave's own race company to complete the car.
Body Modifications
The body was stripped and continued with removal of all non-structural panels. The car was then seam welded and fitted with an MG Motorsport full roll cage, which was further developed to include extensions to the rear chassis legs and front chassis legs. In addition, a cross brace was fitted to link the roll cage and floor rear kick plate, which provides side impact protection and a solid adjustable mounting system for the rear axle trailing arms.
The rear transmission tunnel was re-designed to allow for more clearance for axle tilt adjustment without the prop shaft fouling at race ride height, the external body panels are light weight fibreglass which maintains the correct MGB silhouette.
Front Suspension
Purpose built lightweight cross member, which mounts double tubular wishbones with rose joints. With shorter upper wishbone to create adjustable camber gain. Both upper and lower wishbones are adjustable to allow the tuning of the roll centre, the steering rack is also adjustable to fine tune bump steer via rose jointed ends. The dampers fitted are QA1 adjustable and rebuildable coil overs, to stop the car solid Brembo discs are fitted with Hawk Blue pads, the anti-roll bar is a 1" blade type bar on solid mounts with rose jointed down links.
Rear Suspension
The car is fitted with a FAB-TEK hybrid banjo axle, which is fitted with Salisbury tube axle bearing carriers and bearings and thicker tube axle shafts. The axle has been set to give 1/16-inch toe in and 4 degrees negative camber. The axle is suspended on a floating A frame axle locator kit incorporating adjustable trailing arms, these dictates roll understeer allowing for fine tuning to balance and increase grip as required. Rear axle braking is a solid disc conversion and Willwood callipers with Hawk blue pads.
The diff is a FAB-TEK spool locked diff with a 4.3 ratio. Dampers for the rear axle are via a modified rear frame linked to the rear chassis and role cage this provides anchor points for the vertical QA1 coil over dampers. In addition, there is fitted a fully adjustable blade type anti roll bar which we have either a 1" or 3/4" option. All suspension elements are fully rose jointed for set up and flexibility according to track or driver requirements.
Gearbox/Pedal box
The unit is a MG Motorsport competition straight cut close ratio 4 synchro unit.
The car has a fully adjustable floor mounted competition peddle box, there is in line and peddle bias units fitted, all brake lines are re-routed internally and are either copper or stainless braided. The handbrake fitted is a hydraulic fly off unit.
Engine
The race car is fitted with a new 1950cc MGB engine it has a big valve head and is fully gas flowed, the crank and rods are balanced to match the balanced lightened flywheel and clutch. Fuelling is supplied by a Red Top fuel pump to a 50 DCO-SP single Weber on a port matched Maniflow long branch inlet manifold. The exhaust is a ceramic coated FAB-TEK 3 into one 2.1/2-inch manifold leading to a cross mounted silencer with a side exit.
Other items fitted are race seat and a six-point harness knock off steering wheel, wheels are Reliant Scimitar units fitted with Yokohama race tyres, the car is also equipped with a Race Technology data logger with a Dash 2, which has been upgraded to the latest spec and software. Plumbed fire extinguisher system. Other spares include 2 x new Yokohama tyres on wheels various used fibreglass body panels and a service and tuning kit for the QA1 dampers with spare damper springs. All external body panels are race weight fibreglass with 2 options for the front valance including brakes air ducts.
