BMW E9 Batwing Racer Recreation Tribute
Description:
What you are looking at is a one-of-a-kind BMW E3/E9 CSL Batwing Tribute with a Group A/C engine built by renowned JPS Racing Team engine builder (and friend) Pip Barker, builder of Frank Gardner’s Group C and Group A touring car engines for the single and twin cam 635’s and the M3’s.
The engine uses original JPS Team parts. This car is M2 fast and I’ve had it down the straight at Sydney Motorsport Park at 240kmh.
Pip suggested building a Group A/C engine and placing it into the car for better track results, and used original JPS racing team engine parts to build an original Group A engine.
A BMW E3 Si cut and shut. It has a 70mm shorter wheel base than an E9, benefits from coilovers front and back (an E9 does not have coilovers in the rear) and weighs just 1230kg (and could be made a lot lighter). It outperforms the E9 CSL and has a better power to weight ratio that Jim Richards Australian Touring Car winning BMW 635CSi.
I added the Batwing kit from the Coupe Guy in the US. Hoop strap in garage but comes with sale. Needs to be paint matched.
There is only one of these in existence. Owning this car is an
absolute thrill. It performs like a Group A race car and looks like a 70’s Batwing Racer without the 7-figure price tag original Batwings with racing provenance now demand.
The car does look stunning although the body needs some love and this was next on my list. At 55 and with two young children (and with another 4 seat BMW track car) this Batwing Tribute is not getting the track time she deserves.
She is ready to track now.
This car would suit someone who wants to experience driving a Unique BMW racer with BMW Group A pedigree, all at a more affordable budget and with a race proven car. She is low cost to maintain, does not eat through brakes/pads.
And all but some body attention has been done. She looks fantastic and draws attention.
There is room to upgrade further to go even faster. Should you buy her, you can be on the track the day after delivery.
