In 1997, to help BMW continue its global domination in the hugely successful Super Touring Car Racing, BMW enlisted the help of McLaren to design the latest evolution of the E36 Super Touring Car.
These cars were powered by a naturally aspirated 2000cc engine limited to 8500rpm producing around 325 bhp and weighing in at 1050kg. The power was transmitted through a Holinger Z Drive sequential gearbox connected to a Gemini LSD. With all this power finally gripping the track through 19in slick shod alloy wheels. And when it needs slowing down, there are two 4 pot brake callipers on each front wheel and single 4 pot calliper on the rears...
BMW E36 STC 97/007 was one of the last chassis built in 1997.
It was originally sent to the Italian CiBiEmme race team to compete in the Campionato Italiano Superturismo.
After spending its first year as the team spare car, experienced racer Fabrizio de Simone took control of the car for the following season and he raced it as the #2 car. Taking one-win, numerous podiums and fourth spot overall in this highly competitive championship
After the demise of Super Touring in the early 2000’s, many cars were sold to owners competing in other forms of motorsport. This was no exception for 97/007. Working its way around Europe now taking part in Hill Climbing with much success with championship titles in Spain and France.
The car is in original condition with 8 spare wheels with the addition of electric power steering - pendulum braking system along with Mclaren suspension is all present and correct
Engine dIff and gearbox was rebuild prior to ownership by Butler Motorsport and has been turned frequently and run occasionally for display purposes
