Surtees TS14 - Cosworth F1 Car
Description:
The TS14 was built by the Surtees F1 team for the final three races of the 1972 F1 World Championship, debuting at the Italian GP with John Surtees and Tim Schenken driving the two cars. Combining the trusted Ford Cosworth DFV and Hewland Gearbox the Surtees designed car was a competitive proposition against the V12 Ferraris and BRMs as well as the similarly powered Lotus, McLaren Tyrrell and March teams.
The TS14 continued to be used for the whole of the 1973 season with Mike Hailwood, Carlos Pace completing the whole season and Jochen Mass driving at Silverstone, the Nurburgring and Watkins Glen. During the season Mike Hailwood received the George Medal for bravery, as after tangling with Regazzoni’s BRM the latter’s car burst into flames and Hailwood dived into the flames, undid the unconscious Regazzoni’s belts and dragged him to safety.
Less dramatic than Hailwood, Carlos Pace scored all of the Surtees team Championship points with a 4thplace in the German GP and 3rd place in the Austrian GP and scored the fastest lap at both races – with an impressive 7min 11 sec lap of the daunting Nordschlife.
Chassis TS14-03 was built for the start of the 1973 season and was raced exclusively by Carlos Pace in the Brazil Export colours, the car was also driven but not raced by John Surtees, this car was used for the first 11 Grand Prix (including the non-championship International Trophy).
After being retained by John Surtees until 2007 the car has raced with its single owner in numerous historic F1 events including Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
The car is ready to race and has freshly rebuilt DFV engine built by Peter Grace (ex Team Hesketh engine builder) with dyno time only, rebuild gearbox with 1 event (Silverstone) usage, Fuel cells valid until 2027, freshly crack tested Jan 2024, has current FIA HTP valid until 2026, and seatbelts valid until 2027.
The car also includes a comprehensive spares package including 3 sets wheels, a comprehensive set of spare suspension, spare upright, drive shafts, hubs, discs, disc bells, spare nose and spare cockpit screen.
Available immediately and eligible for Monaco Historic GP 2024 this would be a great entry for the early Series D grid for cars built up to 1972. Please call for more information.
