GT40 for Sale
Description:
This GT40 has been extensively developed by Wealden Engineering and carries lightweight carbon fibre bodywork. It drives superbly and attracts attention wherever it goes. Don't take my word for it though - it was tested by Evo magazine against the 2006 Ford GT, an original GT40 and an RML (Ray Mallock) GT40 and was described as "utterly fantastic".
In 2011, the car was completely stripped down and rebuilt by Wealden Engineering to create an authentic replica of the 1075 in the spec that won LeMans in 1969. This included replacing the engine with one that has original Gurney Weslake heads. The rear GTD setup was replaced with the Southern GT rear end which allows the engine to sit in the same lower position as the original cars, so that the top of the Webers sit below the rear window and allowing for better handling.
The car is currently in Spain but can be returned to its country of origin (UK) without any issue.
The car can be used on the track or the road. It is currently set up for track as I have been using it at Ascari Race Resort. However, it can easily be converted back for road use and the parts to do that come with the car. The front and rear clip, as well as the nostrils are made from carbon fibre saving a significant amount of weight. The car weighs just 1088Kg even though I had a hidden rollcage built into the spaceframe to give far better crash protection.
I attach some photos of the car before and after the rebuild to Gulf spec.
The key details of the car are as follows:
- Dart aluminium block with original Gurney Weslake heads built by Peter Knight of Knight Racing services. 544BHP and 509 FTlb of torque.
- Dry sump oil system
- Fully rose jointed suspension
- ZFQ gearbox
- 4-pot AP racing calipers and discs
- Original Italian 48 IDA weber carburettors
- Carbon fibre front and rear clips
- Tilton pedal box
- Bundle of snakes exhaust. Straight pipes on it at present but car also comes with silenced pipes for road use
- MK 1 (double) nostril as well as MKII (single) nostril in carbon fibre
- Built in roll cage and side impact bars protecting against side impact
- Removable brace to add extra stiffness for racing
- Glass rear window
- Avon slicks and road tyres
- 3 sets of 15” centre lock BRM wheels with knock-on spinners
- Plumbed in fire system
- UK MSA logbook
- Rod gearchange
- Aluminium panels bonded and riveted to chassis to look like monocoque
- Custom wind deflectors for driving without windows (also have original windows with helivents)
- Towing eyes
- Marchal driving lights
- Original GT40 rear view mirror
- Gurney flaps, front and rear
- Quick release steering wheel
- Luke 6-point harnesses
- Aeroquip fuel lines and couplers
The price is £150,000, a fraction of what I have spent on developing the car. The car looks and sounds fantastic. It always attracted more attention than any of the modern day hypercars at Ascari. I even got a gift from the Chief Designer of Lamborghini who saw my car in the garage there when they were launching the Huracan (I let him sit in it and take some photos)!
The car has been raced sparingly but has been very competitive in every event entered.
