Description:

We have the pleasure to present this genuine 1973 GRD S73 with chassis number 073 for sale on behalf of its current owner.

It is important to note that S73 has continuous and clear ownership history from new and still has its original tub and chassis plate !

GRD (Group Racing Developments) emerged in 1971 following Lotus' withdrawal from race car production. The majority of the team came from Hethel: Mike Warner, Lotus Racing's designer Dave Baldwin, and two prominent technicians, Derek Wild and Gordon Huckle (credited with the GRD concept). They chose a Phoenix as the emblem for GRD. Accomplished Swiss engineer Jo Marquart, then with Huron, joined as the designer of GRD.

The aim was to capture the market left open by Lotus Racing, competing with Brabham, and soon gained traction against customer cars like March. GRD merged with DART in 1973, after Denys Dobbie abruptly split from Rondel (and the Rondel Dart projects) at the end of 1972. The idea was for DART to lead a closely associated team. While the agreement was for five years, Dobbie withdrew early in 1974, and by November 1974, GRD production abruptly ceased due to discouraging sales prospects for 1975. Indeed, GRD quickly faded away.

The offered race car is one of the rare sports prototypes constructed by GRD. It's estimated that only around fifteen of these were built in total.
