Description:

1971 Chevron B19

For immediate sale we are pleased to offer this stunning 1971 Chevron B19.  Offered in race ready condition in an iconic livery, this B19 is a proven race winner in capable hands.  Maintained at a high level by a top east coast prep shop, no expense was spared in ensuring that this car is always on the button.

History:

B19-71-18 was dispatched from new to Chevron’s Swiss importer Jo Siffert.  Siffert sold the car to German Dieter Munch who raced the car with some success in ’71.  The car was then sold to an unknown French driver who entered the car in various hill climb events in the 70’s.  Fast forward to 1982 when the car was discovered in a sad state by a dealer from London.  A deal was worked out with (future owner of Lola Cars) Martin Birrane who sent the car to the Chevron factory in Scotland for a full recommissioning.  At this time the car was issued it’s current chassis tag with Chevron’s Scotland address on it.  Birrane campaigned the now fresh B19 in various vintage races in the UK through 1986 at which time it was sold to Bob Jordan and shipped to the US.  Jordan sold the car to 3 time SCCA national champion Dave Vegher in 1989.  Vegher, an accomplished engine builder and owner of Veloce Motors West of Petaluma, CA raced the car with considerable success through the 90’s, often against superior machinery.  In a testament to both the car and his driving skills, he several times beat both Brian Redman and Ed Swart in similar cars.  Some of the times that Vegher recorded in B19-71-18:

Mid-Ohio – 1:30.9

Lime Rock Park - :51.4

Watkins Glen – 1:55.2

Road America – 2:12.1

Laguna Seca – 1:28.7

Vegher sold the car in the late 90’s to Jamey Mazzotta who raced it several times, including winning the Monterey Historics.  Mazzotta then sold it to Jeff Lewis who in 2006 commissioned Vegher’s Veloce Motors West to completely restore the car tip to tail, including repainting it in it’s current Lucky Strike Racing livery it still wears today.  Lewis went on to campaign the car in prominent vintage events on the west coast.  Looking to move on to a different type of race car, Lewis sold the B19 to its current owner who has raced it at all of the major vintage races in the US for the past 10+ years.  The car was last raced at Brian Redman’s Targa 66 event at Moroso in 2021. Since then the Lucas injection system was completely gone through by Kinsler.  Belts are good through 2027.

Spares include many ratio’s for the FT200, a new nose, and a custom fitted car cover.
