Description:
Built by the famed RML (Ray Mallock Engineering) in the early 1990's, this car is the first of only 5 cars built by the Motorsport specialist engineering company. The RML built GT40's are widely acclaimed to be the best handling GT40s and also lay claim to being the rarest.
Fitted with Ford 5.0L V8 engine with Weber Carburettors and correct ZF Gearbox, as well as AP racing brakes and adjustable dampers and anti roll bars, this car was originally built as a road car before being quickly converted to a race car with 5.4L engine - the car was raced successfully by Ray Mallock and the then owner. Subsequently the car was converted back to 5.0L road/track day specification and remains with its second owner.
Finished in pale blue with white stripe, and dark blue leather seats and carpets, the car drives very nicely on its Avon 15in tyres.
Recently serviced by racing Ford expert Ric Wood, the car shows only 5010 miles and is in excellent condition.
The car is fitted with koni 2 way adjustable dampers all round and has front and rear adjustable anti roll bars and AP brake calipers.
The engine was built by Dave Whitehurst - a well respected Ford race engine builder in the UK, and has a mild cam profile for road use. Mated to and original ZF 5 speed gearbox with dog leg first, the car drives very well and is a joy to drive.
Fitted with race type fire extinguisher, kill switch and detachable steering wheel, the interior also presents very nicely with dark blue carpets and dark blue leather seats with Schroth 5 point harnesses. All the gauges are period type VDO or SW gauges and the switchgear is also well appointed and includes dashboard mounted brake bias adjustment.
Designed by Ray Mallock (Engineering Director and driver of the Aston Martin Group C Car, and later the Slaeen S7R) following the formation of RML, and the aquisition of the remaining stock of new ZF transaxles from Safir Engineering.
The RML built GT40s unlike most others are correctly road registered as RML GT40s as they incorporated all new components. The RML GT40 was personally developed by Ray using a defined driving route round the local roads, to optimise spring, damper and roll bar settings as well as toe in, ride height and tyre choice. The development was key to the car having impeccable road manners as well as being capable of race winning performances on track.
