Description:
BMW's E30 Series is widely regarded as one of the most evocative models that has been put to competition use.
Here we have a very successful race car. Originally converted from an E30 2-door road car, it was prepared for BMW Toyo Tyres Championship and run by the well-known Sport Meister concern. This car was extremely successful taking many class wins in this hard fought for championship. Running a production-spec engine and transmission, its engine has been refreshed every 2-years with new shells, rings and clutch and many other parts. Brakes have received a strict annual service with new piston caliper seals and overhaul. Vented Ferodo discs and pads. Suspension Spax adjustable. Spare set Race Dymanics wheels.
Whilst still eligible for a great many BMW-based race series run by PBMW, TTRS, CCRS, 750 and other saloon clubs, it now qualifies for the 'WILLHIRE 24' Class of the prestigious HRDC 'Gerry Marshall Trophy Series', which while predominantly catering for pre-'83 Gp. 1 & Gp. 1-1/ 2 Touring Cars, this prestigious race series offers an entry-level class for Production Touring Cars of the type that ran in the famed 'Willhire 24-Hours' races of the 1980s.
Importantly, this car has just had a major overhaul by the famed LAVANT GARAGE, who run many of the Gp.1 cars that race at Goodwood Members Meeting. On top of their usual thorough pre-season preparation, the car has been stripped and repainted in its original factory colour, re-livered with period sponsorship, fitted with a winged race seat, new 6-point harness and a new fire system, plus a quick-release wheel, in readiness for the 2023 race season, making this to be an outstanding example of its type and ready to contest a full season with the HRDC.
An added bonus is that this car is not only road registered, it has just passed its MOT and can therefore also be used as an economical and viable Track Day car! Very few proven historic Touring Cars can boast such versatility!
Thus, this well prepared and successful BMW 318i would make an excellent first race car, being affordable, easy to maintain and absolutely brilliant fun to drive, all adding up to an accessible passport into top rank historic Touring Car racing.
Truly one of the cheapest historic race cars with reliable fun!
