TECNO (TF71) ELF Works Car – F2 Season 1971

This ELF Team works car, chassis number 00716, features an exceptional racing heritage, having been piloted by some of the most memorable drivers in Formula 2 and Grand Prix racing of the era. Its drivers included Patrick Depailler (lead driver), Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Ernesto “Tino” Brambilla, and François Cevert (in practice sessions).

A pivotal car in launching the careers of these legends, it was part of the collection of Tecno works driver Alceste Bodini until his son, Dr Marco Bodini (Cremona, Italy), sold it to the UK in 1999. The Tecno then passed to Nick Wadham and Andy Kirkby, who undertook a comprehensive restoration. Aside from refurbishing the original instruments and making a few safety-related modifications to comply with current regulations, the focus was firmly on preserving its originality.

The Tecno was entered in the HSCC Derek Bell Trophy in 2004. During this period, new springs, dampers, rose joints, external water pipes (to meet regulations), new aluminium radiators, and a fire extinguisher system in the side pods were installed. The Cosworth BDA engine (by Connaught) was fitted with carburettors to improve drivability and smooth out torque delivery.

Since that time, the car has been preserved within a private collection and is ready to be brought back to the track at any moment. This historically significant racing car is eligible for a range of historic racing series and events, such as Historic F2 HSCC, and others.

A selection of spare parts accompanies the car, including wishbones, wheels from the original FT200 gearbox, and a set of original Campagnolo magnesium wheels.

The car’s history is well documented, and an (old) FIA Historic Technical Passport is included. The car was extensively featured and tested in Vintage Racecar magazine (09/2004).
