Formula 2 Lotus 69 Year 1971 Chassisnumber 71-69-2

In terms of basic concept, the '69 Lotus came from the Lotus 59. The main change was the aluminum monocoque, which was quite bulbous because it housed the fuel tanks in the sides. Typically, for the time, the water cooler was located in the front and the water pipes were simply laid along the outside of the monocoque.

The Lotus 69 were equipped with a 240 hp BDA engine in 1971. BDA stands for “Belt Drive A Type”, i.e. toothed belt drive. The maximum speed is 9,500 revolutions and also gives the 1.6 liter engine a robust sound. The 240 hp are delivered to a Hewland FT 200 5-speed transmission. The wheelbase of 2340mm gives the Formula 2 good maneuverability, which in the 1970s could also cause headaches for the established Formula 1 stars in one or two Formula 1 races, as some Formula 2 cars could easily finish in the top ten in the overall ranking. when there was a mixed field of Formula 1 and Formula 2 vehicles. The short wheelbase, but the comparatively very wide track, allowed the Lotus with its wishbone suspension to achieve a very high level of grip for the time. Wings at the front and a rear wing that extends far back provide additional grip.

The Lotus 69 with chassis number 71-69-2 was presented to the world press at the London Motor Show in 1971. Today it is back in the same livery as it once was at the motor show. Initially the car went to Irish Racing and was driven by Alan Rollinson at the AvD German Grand Prix, he did not finish the race. The car was then driven by John Pollock, who started for Gerry Kinnane's Team Ireland. The car later went to the Bardahl team in 1971 and was driven by Emerson Fittipaldi in two races in Brazil (according to the Autosport magazine 1971 . Fittipaldi achieved third and first place. In general, the 71-69-2 did not have many racing appearances, at least that is what research shows, which is not easy on the subject of the Lotus 71-69-2. In other races, the Bardahl team used a different chassis for Fittipaldi.

This Lotus 69 comes in race ready condition and is actually successful driven in the HSCC-HVM F2 championship .This lovely example was also invited to the Goodwood Revival 2023 Lotus parade!

The Cosworth BDA engine is fresh rebuild by Richardson with 0 miles. New rims and old magnesium rims do come with car . Small spare package with second nose, gears and so on belong to the car. The car is very good always up to date kept condition.

The Lotus has a new FIA HTP valid till 31.12.2033.
